Job Description

COATING INSPECTOR
METER STATION POSITION SUMMARY
The Coating Inspector performs on-site inspection and documentation of all surface preparation and coating application activities associated with meter station construction and installation. Working under the direction of the Chief Inspector or QA/QC Manager, this individual ensures all coating scopes are executed in accordance with approved coating specifications, manufacturer application requirements, client standards, and applicable industry codes.
NACE/AMPP
certification is required for this position.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Perform inspection of all surface preparation and coating application activities on meter station piping, equipment, structural steel, and associated components Verify surface cleanliness and profile meet specification requirements prior to coating application; document per
SSPC/NACE
standards Monitor and record ambient conditions (temperature, humidity, dew point) before and during coating application to ensure application windows are met Inspect coating application for correct DFT (dry film thickness), holiday detection, adhesion, and visual defects at each coat stage Verify coating system materials are approved, within shelf life, properly stored, and mixed per manufacturer data sheets Witness and document all holiday testing using appropriate voltage settings per project specification Identify coating defects, holidays, and damaged areas; initiate NCRs and track repairs through to accepted re-inspection Review and verify contractor coating procedures, material submittals, and applicator qualifications prior to work commencement Coordinate with welding and piping inspectors to ensure coating hold points are integrated into the overall ITP Maintain accurate daily inspection logs, DFT records, ambient condition logs, and photo documentation Review contractor as-built coating records and ensure all documentation is complete for turnover packages Participate in daily safety meetings and adhere to all site HSE requirements
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
5+ years of coating inspection experience on oil and gas pipeline, midstream, or facility construction projects Current
NACE CIP
Level 2 or AMPP Coating Inspector certification — required Strong working knowledge of SSPC, NACE, and ISO surface preparation and coating application standards Familiarity with common coating systems used in oil and gas: epoxy, polyurethane, zinc-rich primers, FBE, and abrasion-resistant overcoats (ARO) Experience with holiday detection equipment, DFT gauges, surface profile comparators, and psychrometric instruments Ability to read and interpret coating specifications, material data sheets, and project ITPs Solid documentation skills; experience with NCR processes and coating turnover packages Ability to work independently and make sound inspection decisions in the field
