AS AN ELECTRICAL INSPECTOR II YOU WILL
perform routine and complex inspections on new construction, buildings in progress and remodeled dwellings to ensure conformity with the rules and regulations of the National Electrical Code (NEC) and other city codes and regulations. Minimum Requirements for Electrical Inspector II Graduation from high school or successful completion of the GED. Some technical, vocational, or trade school training in electrical installation, maintenance, and repair preferred. Minimum of three (3) years' work experience in electrical installation, maintenance, and repair or three (3) years' experience as an Electrical inspector. Required to obtain a Residential Electrical Inspector Certification within eighteen (18) months of date of employment in accordance with certification program of the Virginia Department of Housing & Community Development (VDHCD). Required to possess or obtain a Commercial Electrical certification within three (3) years of date of employment in accordance with the requirements of the Virginia Department of Housing & Community Development (VDHCD). Considerable knowledge of the methods, materials, and techniques of the electrical trade at the journeyman level; considerable knowledge of building code regulations pertaining to electrical regulations. Possession of a journeyman electrician's license is preferred. Must successfully pass a background check related to this position prior to any offer of employment or promotion. This position is safety sensitive and is subject to testing for alcohol and controlled substances in accordance with the City's current substance abuse policy. Must possess a valid driver's license and must have and maintain a satisfactory driving record based on the City of Hampton's criteria Additional Requirements Requires considerable fieldwork with the use of a city owned vehicle. Requires ability to work independently, making judgments and decisions in the line of the enforcement of plumbing, mechanical and fuel gas codes. Extensive contact with contractors, property owners, and the public. Requires crawling under houses, ascending multi-story buildings in a semi- finished state, etc., to accomplish inspections. May be required to assist the Emergency Operations Damage Assessment Team in times of disaster.
