Job Description

Overview Join our dynamic construction team as a Crane Operator, where you'll be at the forefront of heavy lifting and material handling on diverse construction sites. Your expertise will ensure safe, efficient operation of cranes and related heavy equipment, supporting the successful completion of large-scale projects. This role offers an exciting opportunity to work with a skilled team dedicated to building infrastructure that shapes communities. Your mechanical knowledge and construction site experience will be vital in maintaining safety standards while delivering exceptional results. Duties Operate cranes and heavy machinery such as excavators, dozers, loaders, backhoes, and front loader trucks to lift, move, and position materials with precision and safety. Coordinate with ground crews to ensure smooth workflow and adherence to project timelines. Conduct routine inspections of crane equipment and other heavy machinery like concrete mixers, dump trucks, water trucks, roll-off trucks, farm machinery, and tankers to ensure optimal performance. Assist in setting up construction sites by positioning and stabilizing cranes and other equipment for various tasks. Follow safety protocols rigorously during all operations, including load calculations and securing loads properly. Maintain detailed logs of equipment usage, inspections, and maintenance activities for accountability and compliance. Support other construction activities involving Caterpillar machinery or similar equipment as needed. Qualifications Proven experience operating cranes in a construction environment, with a strong understanding of heavy equipment operation. Construction site experience is essential; familiarity with various machinery such as dozers, loaders, backhoes, excavators, and tankers is highly desirable. Mechanical knowledge to troubleshoot basic issues with cranes and related equipment efficiently. Valid commercial driver's license (CDL) with experience driving front loader trucks, dump trucks, water trucks, or roll-off trucks preferred. Knowledge of safety standards related to crane operation and heavy machinery use; certification in crane operation or relevant safety training is a plus. Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions while maintaining focus on safety and precision. Strong communication skills to coordinate effectively with team members and site managers. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
Must possess a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) or be willing/eligible to obtain one upon hire. National Commission for the Certification of Crane Operators (NCCCO) License for Hydraulic and Friction cranes (Lattice Boom Crawler Cranes - LBC).
Experience:
3 years of crane operations within the construction industry. Knowledge/Skills/Abilities (KSA): Knowledge of construction rigging standards, such as the use of slings, cable chokers, spreader bars, multi-part load blocks, etc. Ability to pass NCCCO Crane Operator Department of Transportation (DOT) physical. Knowledge and skills in mechanical operations, such as maneuvering crane controls and making adjustments. Reads, understands, and uses crane load charts to accurately determine load and radius capabilities of equipment. Must possess strong written and verbal communication skills in English to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, clients, and customers.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Certification(s): National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) Mobile Crane and NCCER Rigger & Signal Person.
Experience:
Crane operations in the marine construction industry. Previous experience operating cranes on barges. Knowledge/Skills/Abilities (KSA): Familiarity withmarine or railroad construction terminology. General knowledge and skills in pile driving. Working knowledge of crane operations specifically concerning Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Regulations and American National Standards Institute (ANSI).
WORKING CONDITIONS
The individual must be able to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable workplace accommodation. The individual must also be able to wear and properly utilize appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) to work or visit within areas where it is required. This includes a hard hat, safety glasses, life vest, respirators, ear plugs, steel-toed shoes, personal floatation devices (PFD), and/or other protective equipment. The individual frequently works near moving mechanical parts and must be able to adapt to temperature changes, outdoor conditions, and prolonged exposure to dusty, wet, or humid conditions, loud noises, and vibration. The individual may be required to work long hours and/or weekends. Additionally, some out-of-town or overnight travel may be required. The individual is required to walk, step, climb, or otherwise move from one location on the job site to another, which may be of varying heights and access parameters. The individual may occasionally be required to stand, stoop, bend, crouch, kneel, climb, or sit for long periods. The individual may be required to work in confined spaces, climb vertical ladders of a height of 6 ft. or greater, and/or elevated heights. The individual may be required to lift objects with a minimum of 10 lbs. and a maximum single-person lift of 50 lbs. This could result in frequent lifting or carrying depending on project needs.
