Job Description

Alcon Inc. is looking for an experienced Directional Drill Operator / Locator to join our underground utility construction team in arizona We are seeking a reliable, safety-focused person with experience in both operating directional drilling equipment and locating for underground utility installation. Responsibilities Operate directional drilling equipment for underground installation of fiber, conduit, and related utilities Locate and track the drill head during bores to maintain proper depth and avoid existing utilities Read and follow job plans, bore paths, and field instructions Assist with potholing, setup, conduit placement, pullback, and job site preparation Verify underground utility conflicts and maintain awareness of existing facilities Work closely with crew members, supervisors, and field contacts Perform daily equipment inspections and basic preventive maintenance Load, unload, and help mobilize equipment to and from job sites Follow all company safety procedures and utility protection requirements Report field conditions, production progress, and any issues that may affect the job Maintain a clean, organized, and professional work environment Qualifications Experience as a Directional Drill Operator and/or Locator in underground utility construction Ability to both operate drill equipment and track/locate bores in the field Experience with fiber optic, conduit, or telecom installation preferred Strong understanding of job site safety and underground utility protection Ability to work outdoors in different weather and field conditions Strong communication and teamwork skills Dependable, punctual, and available to travel as needed Valid driver's license required CDL is a plus Experience with Vermeer, Ditch Witch, or similar equipment preferred Preferred Experience Directional drilling for telecom or utility projects Fiber optic underground construction Locating and tracking bores Reading utility plans and field layouts Working around existing underground facilities Supporting both drill and crew operations in the field Physical Requirements Ability to lift 50 pounds or more when needed Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and work in active construction environments Ability to work long days outdoors and travel when required We want someone who is: Experienced in drilling or locating Safety-minded Hardworking and reliable Comfortable traveling for projects in Oregon and Washington Ready to be part of a crew that takes pride in quality work
