Horizontal Directional Drill Operator

Job Overview We are looking for an experienced Horizontal Directional Drill Operator, skilled in operating Ditch Witch directional boring machines. The ideal candidate will have strong understandings of operating horizontal directional drills, great attention to detail, be safety focused. The operator should be capable of working independently or as part of a crew to complete trenchless installations of conduit, pipe or cable. Responsibilities Safely and efficiently operate Ditch Witch horizontal directional drilling equipment to install underground utilities. Confirm the bore path with supervisors, managers and drill locator (including walking the bore path) Complete assigned projects including digging boring pit, directional boring, pulling back conduit, pulling fiber, setting hard holes, backfilling, seeding and core drilling. Set up and break down drill site equipment, including clean and check fluid levels and conduct a visual inspection of vehicle/equipment to ensure your vehicle/equipment performs at the highest efficiency and safety standards. Read and interpret utility maps, job blueprints and locate marking to plan bore paths Monitor bore progress and adjust as needed to avoid underground obstacles Coordinate with locators, vac operators and other crew members to ensure safe and accurate drilling operations Ensure work complies with all safety regulations, environmental guidelines and project requirements Perform utility exposes (potholing) and have a clear understanding of locating information and utility conflict resolution Locate other utilities as needed and maintain clearances from other utilities, ground, road, highway, sidewalk and non-pedestrian areas Transport handle and place conduits in a proper manner following proper procedures Set and secure pedestals and vaults accurately Maintain regular communication throughout the work day Perform any other duties as assigned Requirements and qualifications 2+ years of experience operating Ditch Witch bore machines 2+ years of utility construction experience Strong understanding of horizontal directional drilling principles and safe operating practices Ability to read and interpret utility locates bore plans and job drawings. Valid driver's license (CDL preferred or willingness to obtain) Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and perform physical labor as needed Bilingual Spanish and English are preferred Must be able to stand or walk for long periods of time with repeated lifting (up to 50lbs), kneeling, crawling, climbing and reaching Experience with vacuum excavation support preferred Must have the ability to follow directions and maintain excellent communication.
