HDD Locator RDA Solutions LLC Largo, FL Job Details Full-time From $25 an hour 1 hour ago Qualifications Safe work practices Outdoor work CDL Attention to detail Full Job Description Summary We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented HDD Locator to join our field service team. In this vital role, you will track the position, depth, and pitch of the drill head as it advances underground, using specialized locating equipment to guide the bore along its intended path. Working in close, constant communication with the drill operator, you will relay real-time data on the head's location and steering, confirm that potholes have been performed, and verify that existing utilities are located and safely avoided. Your expertise will help prevent costly utility strikes, keep the bore on grade and on target, and promote safety on every job site. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work outdoors, utilize technical skills, and contribute to large-scale infrastructure development. Duties
- Operate DigiTrak locating equipment to track the drill head's position, depth, pitch, and heading throughout the bore
- Maintain continuous communication with the drill operator, relaying real-time guidance to keep the bore on its designed path and grade
- Create and maintain accurate bore logs for each drill, recording rod-by-rod depth, pitch, and alignment data
- Confirm that potholes/daylighting have been completed at utility crossings before the drill head advances through them
- Verify that existing underground utilities have been properly located and marked, and guide the bore to safely avoid them
- Walk the bore path to monitor surface conditions, locate signal, and identify potential conflicts or interference
- Interpret bore plans, profiles, and site drawings to ensure the drill follows the planned alignment and depth
- Maintain detailed records of site conditions, utility crossings, and project progress for reporting purposes
- Collaborate with the drill crew, locating partners, and project managers to coordinate safe drilling procedures Experience
- Proven field experience in horizontal directional drilling, utility locating, or a related construction/utility role
- Hands-on experience operating DigiTrak locating/tracking systems alongside Vermeer directional drills, and interpreting depth, pitch, and signal data
- Strong understanding of underground utility locating methods and the ability to read locate marks and confirm potholes
- Ability to interpret bore plans, profiles, and technical drawings, and to document bore logs accurately
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to give clear, accurate, real-time direction to the drill operator
- Strong attention to detail and a safety-first mindset in a fast-paced field environment
- Prior experience on HDD or directional drilling projects is highly desirable
