Job Description

Job Summary We are seeking a motivated and skilled Horizontal Directional Drill (HDD) Operator to join our dynamic construction team. In this vital role, you will operate specialized horizontal drilling equipment to install underground utilities with precision and efficiency. Your expertise will help ensure safe, accurate, and timely installation of infrastructure projects, contributing to the success of our construction initiatives. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work on diverse projects, utilize heavy equipment, and develop your skills in a fast-paced environment. Duties Operate horizontal directional drilling machines to create underground pathways for utility lines such as water, sewer, gas, or telecommunications. Conduct pre-operation inspections of equipment, ensuring all machinery is functioning correctly and safely before use. Coordinate with project managers and crew members to plan drilling routes and execute work according to specifications and safety standards. Monitor drilling operations continuously, adjusting techniques as needed to maintain accuracy and prevent damage to existing infrastructure. Maintain detailed records of drilling activities, including depth, location, and any encountered obstacles or issues. Perform routine maintenance on heavy equipment such as excavators, dozers, loaders, backhoes, graders, water trucks, and dump trucks to ensure optimal performance. Follow all safety protocols and construction site regulations to promote a safe working environment for yourself and others. Skills Strong mechanical knowledge of heavy construction equipment including horizontal drills, excavators, dozers, loaders, backhoes, graders, water trucks, and dump trucks. Experience operating heavy machinery in construction or utility installation projects. Knowledge of horizontal directional drilling techniques and related tools. Ability to interpret construction plans and technical drawings accurately. Valid commercial driver's license with experience driving various types of construction vehicles such as tanker trucks or water trucks. Familiarity with safety procedures on construction sites and adherence to OSHA standards. Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot equipment issues quickly and effectively.
