Drill Rig Operator Drill Rig Operator Position Overview We are seeking an experienced Drill Rig Operator to safely and efficiently operate mobile and stationary drilling rigs for geotechnical, foundation, and heavy civil construction projects. The operator will set up rigs, control drilling operations for caissons, piers, and foundations, perform routine maintenance, and work with site supervisors and crew to meet production and safety goals. This role requires a strong focus on safety, attention to detail, and the ability to read plans and drilling logs. Key Responsibilities Set up, prepare, and operate drill rigs for geotechnical borings, caissons, piers, foundations, and other foundation installations. Perform pre-start inspections, safety checks, and routine maintenance on drilling equipment to ensure safe and reliable operation. Interpret construction drawings, boring logs, and supervisor instructions to execute drilling plans accurately. Monitor drilling parameters (penetration rates, torque, mud returns, etc.), adjust equipment settings, and report unusual conditions to supervisors. Coordinate with crew members, site supervisors, and subcontractors to maintain efficient workflow and ensure correct sequencing of operations. Maintain accurate daily drilling logs, production reports, and site records including disposal of drill cuttings and drilling fluids. Troubleshoot mechanical and operational issues on-site and perform minor repairs and adjustments as needed. Adhere to all company, regulatory, and client safety and environmental policies; participate in toolbox talks and safety meetings. Assist with rig mobilization/demobilization, rigging, and securing equipment for transport when required. Train and mentor less experienced crew members and support a culture of continuous improvement and safe operation. Qualifications Proven experience operating drill rigs (mobile and/or stationary) in geotechnical or foundation drilling environments; typically 2+ years preferred. Ability to read and interpret site plans, boring logs, and drilling specifications. Strong mechanical aptitude and experience performing routine maintenance and minor repairs on drilling equipment. Physical ability to perform heavy manual work, including lifting, climbing, and working in variable weather conditions. Demonstrated commitment to safety and experience following site safety procedures. Valid drivers license required; a clean driving record is preferred. Willingness to travel to job sites and work variable shifts, including overtime as required. Drug and background screening may be required per client or company policy.
