90% employer-paid health insurance, 401(k), PTO, apparel allowance Sellenriek Construction is hiring experienced HDD Locators / Directional Drill Locators for underground utility construction projects. This role is focused on locating for horizontal directional drilling crews. The right candidate will have hands-on experience walking the bore path, tracking the drill head, reading locating equipment, and communicating with the drill operator during active bore operations. Most work is local to the Jonesburg/Troy, MO area, but travel may be required on occasion depending on job location and business need. Travel may be 2-3 days at a time or Monday-Friday. Per diem is paid per working day when traveling. We are looking for someone who understands HDD work, can follow prints and bore plans, and can help keep shots accurate, productive, and safe.
Daily Job Duties:
Locate for HDD / directional drilling crews during bore operations Track and guide the drill head throughout the bore path Communicate clearly with the drill operator on depth, pitch, roll, signal, and direction Read and follow utility maps, prints, blueprints, bore plans, and job layouts Identify bore path concerns, existing utility conflicts, and jobsite hazards Use HDD locating equipment such as DigiTrak, Subsite, Falcon, or similar systems Support installation of fiber, telecom, gas, water, sewer, and other underground utilities Assist with bore setup, potholing, hand digging, daylighting, and jobsite preparation Help prevent utility strikes through clear communication and safe drilling practices Work around directional drills, excavators, trenchers, skid steers, and other construction equipment Perform daily checks on locating equipment and report any issues Support the crew with general underground utility work as needed
Ideal Candidate:
1+ year of hands-on experience locating for HDD / directional drilling crews Experience working directly with drill operators during bore shots Comfortable reading locating equipment and tracking depth, pitch, roll, and bore path accuracy Underground utility experience with fiber, telecom, gas, water, sewer, or conduit preferred Experience with DigiTrak, Subsite, Falcon, or similar HDD locating systems preferred Able to read utility maps, prints, blueprints, bore plans, and job layouts Strong communication skills with drill operators, foremen, and crew members Strong safety awareness and damage prevention mindset Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions Willing to help with labor, setup, cleanup, potholing, and crew support Valid Class A CDL preferred, but not required Able to pass background check and drug screen Open to occasional travel when required This is a good fit for someone who has located for a directional drill crew and wants steady local work, consistent hours, strong benefits, and long-term opportunity with an underground utility contractor.
