Job Description
The Drill Operator is responsible for safely operating drilling equipment to support civil and telecom infrastructure projects, including vertical grounding, pier drilling, utility boring, and foundation preparation. This field-based role requires mechanical aptitude, situational awareness, and a strong commitment to safety. The ideal candidate has experience with hydraulic and mechanical drilling systems in construction or utility environments . Key Responsibilities Operate vertical drill rigs, augers, and boring equipment for pier and grounding installations. Perform directional or vertical boring to install conduits, ground rods, and structural footings. Inspect and maintain drill equipment daily; report mechanical issues promptly. Read and interpret site plans, drill logs, and construction layouts. Coordinate with crew members, flaggers, and supervisors for safe operations. Identify underground utilities and monitor soil conditions. Maintain clean, organized job sites and adhere to environmental and safety protocols. Assist with loading/unloading materials and other field tasks when not operating machinery. Travel to multiple job sites across the Southeast U.S.; overnight stays required. Required Qualifications High school diploma or GED. 1+ year of experience operating vertical or directional drilling equipment. Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record. Physically capable of lifting 50+ lbs and working outdoors in varied terrain. Must pass background check and drug screening. Comfortable working around energized infrastructure and active construction zones. Willingness to travel frequently with overnight stays. Preferred Qualifications Experience with Ditch Witch, Vermeer, or similar drill systems. CDL Class A or B license. Familiarity with telecom grounding and foundation standards. OSHA 10 certification or higher. Ability to perform basic equipment troubleshooting and maintenance. OSHA 10 or 30 certification. Ability to assist in ground crew activities when not operating drill
