Job Description
Position Summary American Anthracite is seeking a skilled and precision-focused Bulldozer Operator to join our production and pit operations team. In this role, you will operate heavy crawler tractors and bulldozers equipped with concave or straight blades. Your primary responsibilities will center on the heavy moving, gouging out, leveling, and distribution of earth, run-of-mine coal, rock, spoil, and overburden. A critical aspect of this position includes conducting precision grading, maintaining high-wall safety, clearing right-of-ways, and executing environmental reclamation tasks across active strip mining terrain.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities Precision Earthmoving:
Operate bulldozers in successive passes over rough terrain to raise, lower, or level the ground to specified operational grades. Grade & Signal Alignment:
Follow markings on grade stakes, survey markers, or hand/radio signals from pit spotters, accurately feeling blade levers and listening to engine feedback to estimate the depth of cuts. Pit & Bench Maintenance:
Clear right-of-ways, maintain stable benches, push material to excavators/shovels, and manage dump edges to ensure safe, continuous operations for the hauling fleet. Pre/Post-Shift Inspections:
Conduct comprehensive daily equipment walkthroughs, verifying track tension, structural blade integrity, hydraulic lines, fluid levels (gas, oil, water), and core safety systems. Equipment Care & Field Maintenance:
Clear heavy mud, rock, and packed debris from sideframes, tracks, and sprockets. Execute routine field lubrication, fueling, and greasing of critical pivot points. Collaborative Maintenance:
Assist mobile mechanics in performing field servicing, track adjustments, or emergency roadside repairs on an "as-needed" basis. Safety & Regulatory Compliance:
Monitor pit floor stability and high-wall conditions constantly, reporting any hazards immediately to the supervisor in full compliance with MSHA standards. Operational Reporting:
Record and report daily equipment hours, material blocks moved, or maintenance needs to the pit foreman. Position Qualifications Experience:
Minimum of 2-3 years of proven experience operating heavy bulldozers (CAT D8 through D11 equivalent) within an active mining, large aggregate quarry, or major heavy civil earthmoving environment. Core Competencies:
Strong mastery of slot dozing, backing down steep slopes, high-wall profiling, and precision finish grading. Operational Adaptability:
Ability to connect hydraulic hoses, mechanical linkages, or specialized power takeoffs to accommodate different blade and ripper attachments. Schedule Alignment:
Must be fully prepared to work assigned operational production shifts, which may include days, nights, and weekends based on company needs. Licensing:
A valid Pennsylvania Driver's License is required. Physical Demands & Work Environment Physical Capabilities:
The position requires sitting for extended periods inside a heavy industrial cab, subject to constant whole-body vibration and jarring movements over rough pit floors. Operators must have excellent depth perception, wide peripheral vision, and the physical agility to climb vertical equipment ladders to access the cab safely. Occasional lifting or pulling up to 50 pounds during field adjustments is required. Environment:
Work is performed outdoors across all extreme weather variations (intense heat, mud, snow, rain, ice). Exposure to high industrial noise levels, heavy dust, airborne particulates, and steep or slick grades is an inherent part of the production pit. Strict compliance with personal protective equipment (PPE) protocols is mandatory at all times. Why Join American Anthracite?
