Job Description

LAUNCH Defense is seeking Structures Mechanics to provide hands-on support for structural assembly, integration, and test of satellite flight hardware. This role is focused on precision mechanical build and structural integration within an aerospace manufacturing environment. The Structures Mechanic Technician will work directly with engineering and production teams to assemble, fabricate, inspect, and integrate primary and secondary structures into spacecraft systems. This is a highly hands-on role requiring strong mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and adherence to aerospace workmanship standards Education High School Diploma required. Vocational or technical education in a mechanical or aerospace field preferred. Experience Candidates must have experience in the following: (1 Year minimum) Experience in aerospace structural assembly or aircraft structures. Experience operating fabrication equipment such as lathes, mills, or 3D printers. Hands-on mechanical experience working on vehicles, oilfield equipment, industrial machinery, or similar mechanical systems. Experience reading mechanical drawings, blueprints, and tolerance specifications. Additional Requirements Working knowledge of Microsoft Office tools. Comfortable working in cleanroom and manufacturing environments. Soft Skills Strong mechanical aptitude and craftsmanship. High attention to detail and quality standards. Ability to follow structured work instructions and engineering documentation. Team-oriented with strong communication skills. Proactive problem solver in fast-paced build environments. Technology & Tools Standard mechanical shop tools (lathes, mills, drill presses) Torque wrenches and precision measurement equipment Hand tools and structural fastener installation tools 3D printers (as applicable) Microsoft Office Suite Physical Requirements Ability to stand for extended periods on the manufacturing floor. Ability to lift up to 40 lbs. Manual dexterity for precision assembly work. Ability to work in cleanroom attire and controlled environments. What Winning Looks Like Structural hardware installs correctly the first time with minimal rework. Interfaces align within tolerance and integrate cleanly with subsystems. Workmanship meets aerospace flight standards. Spacecraft structures are built accurately, efficiently, and ready for environmental testing and launch.
Key Responsibilities:
Structural Assembly & Integration Perform hands-on assembly and integration of spacecraft structural components. Install brackets, panels, frames, supports, and structural subassemblies to engineering drawings and work instructions. Execute precision drilling, reaming, fastening, torquing, bonding, and alignment operations. Integrate structural hardware with spacecraft subsystems including avionics, RF, and mechanical assemblies. Verify fit, alignment, tolerance stack-ups, and structural interface integrity. Fabrication & Modification Fabricate development and test components using basic machining and shop tools. Operate lathes, mills, drill presses, and 3D printing equipment as required. Perform trimming, shimming, deburring, and structural rework to meet engineering specifications. Support prototype builds and engineering change implementations. Structural Testing & Support Assist with structural and mechanical testing activities. Support vibration, load, and environmental test preparation. Install instrumentation and assist with data acquisition setup as required. Follow released procedures for structural verification and acceptance testing. Process & Continuous Improvement Provide feedback to engineering on manufacturability and structural design improvements. Assist in development and refinement of assembly procedures and work instructions. Identify workmanship issues and prevent integration escapes. Maintain cleanroom and ESD compliance standards.
Pay:
$33.00 - $41.00 per hour
