2 months Intumescent Fireproofing Job Description An Intumescent Fireproofing Technician is responsible for applying fire-resistant coatings to structural steel and other building materials in commercial and industrial construction projects. These coatings are designed to expand when exposed to high temperatures, helping protect structural components during a fire and ensuring compliance with fire safety regulations and building codes.
Key Responsibilities:
Prepare surfaces for fireproofing applications by cleaning, sanding, masking, and priming materials as required Apply intumescent fireproofing coatings using spray equipment, rollers, or brushes according to manufacturer specifications and project requirements Measure coating thickness using wet and dry film gauges to ensure compliance with fire rating standards Read and interpret blueprints, specifications, and fireproofing schedules Operate and maintain spray pumps, compressors, hoses, and related equipment Ensure all work complies with OSHA safety standards, project specifications, and local building codes Coordinate with project managers, inspectors, and other trades on job site scheduling and workflow Perform touch-ups, repairs, and quality control inspections as needed Maintain clean and organized work areas and properly store materials and equipment
Qualifications:
Previous experience with intumescent fireproofing or industrial coatings preferred Knowledge of commercial construction safety practices and PPE requirements Experience using airless spray equipment and measuring film thickness preferred Ability to read blueprints and follow technical specifications Strong attention to detail and quality control Ability to work at heights, on lifts, and in active construction environments Comfortable working in varying weather and construction site conditions Must be able to perform job duties that require standing, crouching, twisting upper body, occasional; sitting, step up or crawl, working at heights, and lifting up to 50 lbs. unassisted. Strong understanding of safety procedures, including fall protection and PPE requirements and iron worker tools (belts, bags, spud wrenches, harness)
