The Journeyman Electrician is responsible for installing electrical systems safely, efficiently, and in accordance with project specifications, the National Electrical Code (NEC), local jurisdiction requirements, and RK Electric quality standards. This position requires the ability to work independently, mentor apprentices and trainees, troubleshoot electrical systems, and maintain a strong commitment to safety, craftsmanship, and professionalism. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Electrical Installation Install, maintain, and repair electrical systems and equipment, including power distribution systems, lighting, motors, controls, transformers, feeders, and branch circuits. Install electrical panels, switchboards, disconnects, circuit breakers, transformers, and associated electrical equipment. Install switches, receptacles, dedicated circuits, equipment connections, and specialty electrical systems. Perform equipment hook-ups and terminations for HVAC, mechanical, industrial, manufacturing, and specialty equipment. Install and service lighting systems, lighting controls, occupancy sensors, dimming systems, photocells, time clocks, and energy management systems. Conduit and Wiring Systems Install conduit systems including EMT, IMC, RMC, PVC, cable tray systems, and flexible conduit. Bend, fabricate, and install conduit systems while maintaining a high standard of workmanship. Pull, terminate, test, and troubleshoot branch circuit, feeder, and service conductors. Install and support cable tray systems, feeder installations, and raceway systems in accordance with project requirements. Troubleshooting and Diagnostics Perform electrical troubleshooting, diagnostics, and repairs on power distribution, lighting, motor, and control systems. Utilize electrical testing equipment to identify, isolate, and resolve system deficiencies. Verify proper operation of electrical equipment and systems prior to turnover. Blueprint and Code Compliance Read and interpret blueprints, electrical drawings, specifications, one-line diagrams, and wiring schematics. Apply National Electrical Code (NEC) requirements and local jurisdiction requirements to daily work activities. Ensure all installations comply with applicable codes, project specifications, manufacturer requirements, and company standards. Safety and Quality Follow all RK Electric safety policies and procedures. Comply with OSHA regulations, NFPA 70E requirements, lockout/tagout procedures, and PPE requirements. Identify and report unsafe conditions, hazards, and quality concerns. Maintain a clean, organized, and professional work area. Participate in required safety meetings, training programs, and toolbox talks. Leadership and Teamwork Mentor and assist apprentices and electrical trainees by providing guidance on installation methods, safety practices, and workmanship expectations. Coordinate work activities with foremen, superintendents, project managers, inspectors, customers, and other trades. Assist with material management, task planning, and project coordination as assigned. Promote RK Electric's culture of safety, accountability, teamwork, and professionalism. Required Qualifications Certification Current and valid California General Electrician Certification required. Certification must remain active and in good standing throughout employment. Experience Commercial and/or industrial electrical construction experience. Completion of a state-approved electrical apprenticeship program preferred. Experience installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting commercial electrical systems. Technical Knowledge Strong understanding of commercial and industrial electrical systems. Experience with three-phase power systems, transformers, motors, controls, feeders, and power distribution equipment. Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, specifications, and equipment submittals. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Code and Safety Knowledge Working knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC). Understanding of OSHA safety requirements and electrical safe work practices. Ability to identify and mitigate workplace hazards. Transportation Reliable transportation to various project locations throughout the Bay Area. Preferred Qualifications OSHA 30-Hour Construction Certification.
NFPA 70E
Training. CPR and First Aid Certification. Experience working in data centers, semiconductor facilities, healthcare facilities, advanced manufacturing facilities, mission-critical environments, or complex commercial construction projects. Previous experience serving as a Lead Electrician or Working Foreman. Physical Requirements Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds. Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb, crouch, and work overhead for extended periods. Ability to work from ladders, scaffolds, aerial lifts, and elevated work platforms. Ability to work in confined spaces and active construction environments. Ability to distinguish colors and identify electrical conductors. Work Environment Regular exposure to active construction sites. Exposure to energized electrical systems, moving mechanical equipment, dust, noise, and varying weather conditions. Work may be performed indoors, outdoors, at heights, or in confined spaces. Position requires strict adherence to all safety requirements and safe work practices.
