The right candidate demonstrates reliability, punctuality, a positive attitude, and a strong work ethic. Experience requirements and responsibilities will vary based on year level and documented hours. For entry-level employees, the position begins with a 90-day introductory period in a labor support role with light electrical work. Employees who prove themselves are promoted with a pay increase and begin more hands-on electrical work while continuing to perform labor duties. More experienced trainees (2nd-4th year) are expected to contribute on the tools from day one, possess a working understanding of the NEC and general building materials, and progressively assume greater responsibility. First 90 Days — Labor Support (Primarily Entry-Level Employees) Trenching and excavation for underground electrical runs Carrying, staging, and organizing tools and materials on job sites Cleaning and maintaining company vans and vehicles Cleaning and maintaining the shop General support of the electricians in the field — cleaning, material handling, site prep Driving a company truck for dump runs and material deliveries Removal and haul-off of old generators and retired equipment Light electrical support tasks as directed
Expectation:
No complaints. Head down, work hard, prove yourself. Electrical Trainee Responsibilities Depending on experience level and demonstrated ability, trainees will: Perform light electrical work and assist with installations under direct supervision Install electrical systems including rough-in, conduit, wire pulling, terminations, and finish work Learn wiring methods, materials, and code requirements Apply NEC code requirements to everyday installation work Select and work with appropriate building materials for each application Independently handle small overhead projects as assigned Provide installation help and support to lead electricians on larger projects Maintain tools, vehicles, and the shop in good order Support and help develop entry-level staff Continue labor duties including trenching, tool support, van and shop upkeep, dump runs, and equipment removal
Important:
Advancement into electrical work does not eliminate labor responsibilities. Labor and job site support are part of the trade at every level and remain part of the role throughout your career as you grow into electrical work.

Qualifications1st-Year Trainees Up to one (1) year of electrical experience, OR equivalent construction / general labor experience California Electrician Trainee card is an asset, but not required Ability to perform physical labor, including trenching, material handling, lifting 50+ lbs, and working in all weather conditions Valid driver's license preferred Reliable commute within the Monterey / Salinas area Responsive to calls and texts; shows up on time; professional presentation 2nd-4th-Year Trainees Two (2) to four (4) years of documented electrical field experience Current California Electrician Trainee registration required for experienced trainees (bring proof of registered hours) Working understanding of the National Electrical Code (NEC) Solid understanding of general building materials and construction methods Hands-on familiarity with conduit bending, wire pulling, terminations, and basic blueprint reading Must own a complete set of hand tools and power tools Valid driver's license required Reliable commute within the Monterey / Salinas area Ability to lift 50+ lbs and work from ladders and lifts for overhead installations Compensation & Path Forward Compensation ranges from $19.00 to $37.00 per hour , commensurate with experience level and registered hours, based on market rates for trainee electricians, communicated clearly upfront, and is non-negotiable. The role offers a defined path from Laborer → Trainee → Electrician , with on-the-job training under experienced, licensed electricians. Trainees who demonstrate reliability, quality workmanship, initiative, and leadership advance in responsibility and pay toward journeyman-level work.
