Job Description
JOB The purpose of this position is to assist the Licensed Electrician and facilitate the installation, repair and maintenance of industrial electrical equipment. The incumbent must understand complex verbal and written instructions and follow safety procedures and precautions related to work in energized electrical substations. In addition, this position will perform basic tasks such as handling tools: working independently from the Licensed Electrician at times on electrical tasks that require less skill or experience: completing maintenance work orders on electrical equipment: testing malfunctioning equipment: identifying defects: troubleshooting: repairing equipment and replacing defective parts: complete electrical wiring tasks; alignment adjustments; and calibration of equipment following manuals, schematics, diagrams, blueprints and equipment specifications.
In the event of a natural or man-made disaster that may threaten the area, the employee may be required to perform emergency duties as directed.
Assists in digging foundations, trenches and installing forms.
Reads gauges and instruments and logs the information in records.
Reads blueprints and diagrams for electrical distribution systems.
Performs increasingly difficult and skilled work approaching journey level as the training period progresses.
Experience with working with hand tools, power tools and electronic test equipment.
Installs service feeders for services, run pipe, pull branch circuits, install lighting, and minimum troubleshooting.
Ability to understand complex verbal and written instructions and follow safety procedures and precautions related to work in energized electrical substations.
Pipe running and bending, pulling circuits, terminating panel boards, installation of lighting, other electrical duties as required.
Utilizes vehicles by operating bucket trucks; maintaining inventory and conducting inspections.
May be required to work overtime or alternate hours as necessary for the efficient operations of the department.
Performs work related to this job description as required.
Some knowledge of the principles of electrical theory as applied to distribution and transmission circuits and control systems.
Skill in the use of tools and instruments used in electrical work.
Ability to read blueprints and apply information.
Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Ability and willingness to learn a wide variety of skilled tasks required in electrical construction and maintenance work.
Ability to learn and observe safety and environmental regulations and precautions and possess the ability to learn and apply confined space.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisor, co-workers, other employees and the general public.
Ability to complete a training program leading to journey level electrician.
Acceptable eyesight (with or without correction)Acceptable hearing (with or without correction) Ability to sit for long periods of timeRequires manual dexterity sufficient to operate a keyboard, calculator, telephone, copier, and other related office equipment as necessary.
Ability to lift fifty (50) pounds.
Occasional finger use, feeling.
Frequent standing, bending, stooping, crouching, kneeling, sitting, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, handling, speaking, hearing, depth perception use.
Very Frequent walking, turning, seeing, working speed, driving(vehicle/equip/other).Constant hand/ wrist movement.
Occasionally inside, wet, working with vibrations, cramped quarters, working with irregular and slippery surfaces. Frequent noise, work with adequate lighting, exposure to burns.
Very frequently hot, humid, dry, dirty, working with/around others, exposed to chemicals, exposed to insects. Very frequent work with sudden temperature changes, odors including gases/fumes, adequate ventilation, mechanical hazards, moving objects/machinery, electrical hazards, radiant energy, toxic conditions.
Constantly outside. This position is included in the County's Hearing Conservation Program due to routine exposure to high noise levels. Employees in this role are expected to wear hearing protection and participate in periodic hearing evaluations, in alignment with best practice guidelines based on OSHA recommendations.
