Job Description

The Surface and Underground Electrician is responsible for maintaining the mine's electrical infrastructure across both surface facilities and underground workings. This includes troubleshooting, installing, and repairing electrical circuits, motors, panels, lighting, and communication systems. The ideal candidate will possess strong knowledge of mining electrical systems, demonstrate a commitment to safety, and be capable of working independently or as part of a team in varying conditions. We have Day and Night shifts, shift differential, and production bonuses.
ESSENTIAL JOB RESULTS
1. Maintains and repairs electrical systems by: Diagnosing and troubleshooting electrical problems in both surface and underground areas Repairing or replacing faulty wiring, circuits, switches, panels, and motor controls Ensuring electrical components meet safety and performance specifications 2.
Performs installations and upgrades by:
Installing new electrical systems, power distribution, and lighting as required Running conduit and pulling wire in accordance with electrical codes Assisting in the setup of new equipment or facility expansions 3. Ensures regulatory and safety compliance by: Adhering to MSHA and NEC electrical standards at all times Locking out and tagging equipment during repair procedures Maintaining records of inspections, tests, and repairs 4.
Supports operational readiness by:
Responding promptly to electrical issues that impact production Coordinating with other departments to minimize downtime Monitoring and maintaining communication systems (phones, radios, etc.) 5. Conducts routine inspections and preventive maintenance by: Inspecting equipment and systems regularly to identify wear or potential failures Maintaining and testing emergency lighting, generators, and substations Assisting with electrical system audits and updating schematics as necessary
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform this job successfully. Education and/or
Experience:
High school diploma or GED required State-issued journeyman electrician license preferred Minimum 3 years of experience in industrial or mining electrical work MSHA Underground Miner Training certification required (or ability to obtain) Experience working in both surface and underground environments strongly preferred
Skills and Attributes:
Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills Knowledge of AC/DC power systems, motor controls, VFDs, and PLCs Ability to read blueprints, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals Self-motivated and safety-focused with strong attention to detail
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to: Stand, walk, bend, crawl, and work in confined spaces Lift, carry, and maneuver tools or materials up to 75 lbs Work at heights or in awkward positions underground or on surface structures Wear full PPE including hard hats, gloves, eye protection, and arc-flash gear
WORK ENVIRONMENT
This role involves work in both surface and underground areas of an operating mine.
Conditions may include:
Exposure to dust, water, heat, humidity, and electrical hazards Work around heavy mobile and stationary equipment Low-light environments underground and variable outdoor weather on surface Rotating shifts, weekend, and holiday work as required Why Join Us?
