Job Description

S.E.W. Friel of Queenstown, MD, is looking to hire a motivated electrician / electrician's apprentice to join our dedicated team and become an essential part of our company operations. The electrician / electrician's apprentice position earns a competitive wage, is eligible for an annual bonus, and works a general schedule of day shift Monday through Friday with overtime during peak season. Position Summary The electrician / electrician's apprentice will be responsible for the installation, repair, and maintenance of electrical systems according to code. They will also be maintaining multiple productions lines, both electrically and mechanically.
Job Responsibilities:
Responsible for both electrical and mechanical duties. Perform highly diversified duties to install, assemble, test, and maintain production machines and the plant facility's equipment. Complete mechanical and electrical connections to distribution system equipment such as transformers, junction boxes, distribution panels, bus bars, outlets, switches, fuses, and circuit breakers Perform preventive maintenance inspections and service on machines. Read and interpret equipment manuals and work orders to perform required maintenance and service. Monitor, identify and respond promptly to signs of malfunction in machinery such as changes in performance, temperature fluctuations, sounds, smells or atypical energy usage; perform troubleshooting for production machinery. Provide emergency/unscheduled repairs of production equipment during production. Thoroughly clean machines and machine parts, remove parts and reinstall when necessary. Record and report damaged, worn, or broken parts. Prepare reports documenting work performed. Read and comply with work orders concerning service, modification or installation of machinery. Clean, organize, inventory, stock, and otherwise maintain shop areas, parts, tools, and supplies. Coordinate with managers to schedule regular maintenance on machines. Comply with safety regulations and maintain clean and orderly work areas. Train production workers on routine preventative maintenance. Work effectively with other team members in a loud environment. Perform other related duties as assigned. Requirements High school diploma. Some vocational or community college with related coursework in mechanical, electrical, or industrial maintenance a plus. Minimum of 3 years electrical and mechanical experience; strong hydraulic, pneumatic, mechanical, electrical, and industrial skills. Ability to read and interpret documents such as maintenance/manufacturing manuals and blueprints.
Knowledge of PLC's:
AC/DC; single phase and 3 phase motors is a PLUS Knowledge & troubleshooting capability of pneumatic and hydraulic circuits a PLUS. Journeyman's license a PLUS. Knowledge and ability to operate hand and power tools. Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to identify issues and determine repairs that are needed. Must be highly motivated and work well independently. Ability work in a fast-paced environment and work competently in emergencies. Organized with attention to detail.
Physical Requirements:
Prolonged periods standing and walking. Able to bend, stretch, push, pull, and move as needed to reach, clean, and service machinery. Must be able to visually inspect machines. Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds. Must wear required PPE and follow all safety rules.
