Job Title:
Electrician Job Description The Electrician repairs, constructs, installs, troubleshoots, and maintains electrical and electronic systems and equipment in an industrial environment. This role works with low-voltage systems, performs detailed soldering work, and uses blueprints and schematics to install and maintain wiring, conduit, and control systems, including programmable logic controllers and electronic circuitry. Responsibilities Repair, construct, install, troubleshoot, and maintain routine electrical systems and equipment in an industrial setting. Cut, thread, bend, couple, and strap conduit according to specifications and layout requirements. Measure and cut wire and conduit to length, ensuring accurate and clean installations. Install, repair, or replace switch boxes, light bulbs, plugs, sockets, light fuses, and extension cords. Disassemble motors, generators, and other electrical equipment in preparation for inspection and repair. Troubleshoot electrical malfunctions and determine root causes using appropriate testing methods and tools. Inspect circuits and wiring for proper shielding and grounding to ensure safe operation. Test electrical equipment for safety, efficiency, and proper functionality using voltage and amperage measuring and recording devices. Troubleshoot, repair, and install electronic systems, including programmable logic controllers (PLCs), circuitry, and PC boards in plant machinery. Interpret and work from blueprints, drawings, layouts, wiring diagrams, and schematic drawings to complete installations and repairs. Develop wiring diagrams when needed to support new installations or modifications to existing systems. Perform maintenance on electronic or solid-state controls that may include interlocking or interdependent circuits. Apply working knowledge of the National Electric Code when performing installations, repairs, and maintenance. Use electrical hand tools and test equipment safely and effectively during all tasks. Perform precise soldering work on low-voltage wiring and electronic components. Carry out additional electrical maintenance and repair duties as assigned by management. Essential Skills Proven experience repairing, constructing, installing, troubleshooting, and maintaining electrical systems and equipment. Hands-on experience working with low-voltage electrical systems; no 480-volt work required for this role. Ability to read, interpret, and work from blueprints, schematics, wiring diagrams, and layout drawings. Proficiency in cutting, threading, bending, coupling, and strapping conduit for industrial installations. Skilled in running conduit and pulling wire in an industrial environment. Strong troubleshooting skills for electrical and electronic systems, including identifying and resolving malfunctions. Experience with voltage and amperage measuring and recording devices for testing and diagnostics. Ability to troubleshoot, repair, and install programmable logic controllers (PLCs), electronic circuitry, and PC boards. Proficiency in soldering for low-voltage wiring and electronic components. Working knowledge of the National Electric Code and its practical application. Competence using standard electrical hand tools safely and effectively. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience in industrial electrical environments is highly beneficial. Familiarity with maintenance of electronic or solid-state controls with interlocking or interdependent circuits. Ability to develop wiring diagrams as needed for new or modified installations. Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety and equipment reliability. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision as well as collaboratively with maintenance and production teams. Effective problem-solving skills and a methodical approach to diagnosing and repairing electrical issues. Comfort with hands-on work that requires precision, particularly when soldering and working with small components. Why Work Here? Work Environment This position operates in an industrial plant environment, working primarily on low-voltage electrical and electronic systems. Work is performed on a first-shift schedule, providing consistent daytime hours. The role involves frequent use of electrical hand tools, conduit tools, soldering equipment, and voltage or amperage measuring and recording devices. You will regularly work with blueprints, schematics, wiring diagrams, and plant machinery that incorporates programmable logic controllers, PC boards, and electronic controls. The environment may require standing, bending, and working around machinery and installed conduit runs. Appropriate work attire and personal protective equipment are required to ensure safety while performing electrical and mechanical tasks. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Benton Harbor, MI. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $30.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
