Job Title:
Setup Technician Job Description The Setup Technician prepares, installs, and dismantles mobile trailer units for use on job sites, ensuring they are safe, functional, and ready for customer use. This role combines hands-on construction work, equipment handling, and basic mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and HVAC support while working primarily in an outdoor yard environment with occasional visits to customer sites. Responsibilities Set up and tear down mobile trailers for use on job sites, ensuring all units are installed safely and correctly. Perform all tasks essential to setting up units, including anchoring, blocking and leveling, interior and exterior seaming, VAPS installation, and installing steps, canopies, and ramps. Load and unload trucks with materials, equipment, and furniture needed for trailer setup and knock-down. Build and install furniture for units and move equipment and materials around the storage yard as needed. Complete all duties required for the knock-down of buildings, including building shipping walls and securing exterior walls for transport. Separate connected buildings and disconnect all utility and mate-line crossovers safely and according to guidelines. Secure all items for shipment, ensuring that components, materials, and equipment are properly fastened and protected. Clean the job site after knock-down and remove all installations from the site, such as blocks, steps, anchors, ramps, ABS pads, steel piers, and customer modifications. Remove or disconnect customer modifications on units, including basic electrical and plumbing elements, as directed. Work outdoors in varying weather conditions while moving materials and equipment around the storage yard area. Use carpentry skills to perform repairs, adjustments, and installations on trailers and related structures. Operate and use hand and power tools safely and effectively to complete construction and setup tasks. Apply mechanical aptitude to troubleshoot and resolve basic mechanical issues related to units and equipment. Assist with basic electrical, HVAC, and plumbing tasks within the scope of the role and training provided. Use basic computer knowledge to complete required documentation, follow work orders, and communicate job status. Drive company vehicles as needed to move equipment or travel to customer sites, maintaining safe driving practices at all times. Maintain a positive, flexible, and "do it all" attitude, supporting team members and adapting to changing priorities. Follow all safety procedures, company policies, and work instructions to maintain a safe and organized work environment. Essential Skills Demonstrated carpentry skills with the ability to perform construction-related tasks accurately and safely. Familiarity with construction trades and construction environments, including working with building materials and site setups. Ability to use hand tools and power tools confidently and safely for building, installation, and repair work. Mechanical aptitude with the ability to understand and work with mechanical systems and components. Basic understanding of electrical, HVAC, and plumbing concepts as they relate to trailer setup and modifications. Current valid driver's license with a good, clean driving record. Basic computer knowledge to read work orders, complete documentation, and communicate job progress. Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions while performing physically demanding tasks. Strong work ethic and a proactive, "do it all" attitude toward tasks and responsibilities. Additional Skills & Qualifications Previous experience in construction or a construction-related trade. HVAC technician skills or experience supporting HVAC installation and maintenance. Experience working in a yard or equipment storage environment. Ability to read and follow basic plans, diagrams, or instructions related to unit setup and knock-down. Interest in on-the-job training and professional development, including pursuing trade credentials such as a journeyman card. Why Work Here? Work Environment This role is based primarily at a storage yard, working mainly in an outdoor environment where you will move materials, equipment, and mobile units around the yard. You may occasionally travel to customer sites to support setup and knock-down activities. The standard work schedule is Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with occasional Saturdays during peak seasons. Work involves hands-on construction tasks, frequent use of hand and power tools, and handling building materials and equipment in varying weather conditions. A valid driver's license and clean driving record are required to operate vehicles as needed for yard and site work. Dress should be appropriate for an active, outdoor, construction-style environment, with suitable workwear and safety gear in line with company safety policies. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Wayland, MI. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $23.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
