Job Summary This position exists to possess a Class "A" Master or a Class "A" Journeyman Electrician's license. This position is to provide District 4 buildings and facilities with new electrical installations and the extension, replacement, alteration, maintenance, and repair of existing electrical, HVAC, and BAS systems. This position is also required to perform all other related building functions according to all National, State and local codes .
Examples of work:
(A position may not include all the work examples given, nor does the list include all that may be assigned.) Lead and monitor work activities of other facility personnel to ensure the timely completion of projects in compliance with electrical and safety codes. Install, test, repair, replace and maintain electrical systems, fixtures and equipment. Install, maintain, and operate all Building Automation Systems (BAS) to include but not limited to: security, access, temperature, surveillance and preventative maintenance programs. Perform routine maintenance and repair to buildings and equipment.
Tasks include:
Perform maintenance and repairs to structures, roofs, doors, windows and other building elements. Replace or repair locks. Build or repair plaster walls, concrete surfaces and brick surfaces. Perform custodial duties. Painting exterior and interior building surfaces. Perform structural repairs to buildings. Perform plumbing repairs and installations that do not require a licensed plumber to perform. Remove snow and ice from and maintain sidewalks, parking areas, yards and grounds so that a safe, professional, neat appearance is maintained. Install, maintain and repair all heating, cooling and ventilation systems. Review plans, blueprints and specifications for electrical and construction projects along with monitoring and inspecting the work done on these projects. Qualifications Minimum Qualifications To qualify, Electrician applicants must meet the following: Possession of a current Minnesota Class A Master or Journey Electrician's license. Valid Class D driver's license. Applicants must be able to obtain their Class B CDL with no air brake restriction within 6 months of hire. Preferred Qualifications Knowledge and skill in construction plans, blueprints and electrical specifications sufficient to interpret, modify and follow them to complete electrical projects. Ability to instruct others and verify that their work meets code and to select appropriate supplies, equipment and work methods and apply them to electrical projects. Knowledge of national, state and local codes and standard electrical practices, techniques, materials and tools sufficient to ensure that work and materials comply with code. Working knowledge of English sufficient to read, write, speak and understand oral and written information; communicate with employees and the general public in-person or via two-way radio and other electronic devices; and to maintain routine written logs and simple records. Physical Requirements While performing the duties of this position, the employee is required to work in a variety of areas throughout District 4 complexes with a variety of tools (both power and hand). The employee frequently uses gross and fine dexterity in a variety of positions including reaching outward and overhead, bending, working with outstretched arms and/or while lying on the back, working from heights and bending over. The employee works with power tools, machinery/instruments and equipment and hand tools requiring the frequent lifting and/or carrying/holding of supplies and parts up to 50 pounds and rarely up to 100 pounds. Loads over 100 pounds are lifting occasionally, but with the aid of lifting devices and fellow workers. Fine dexterity and eye coordination of the wrists, hands and finger to handle, feel, scrape, pound or use force is constant up to 25 pounds. Working conditions include vision, noise, vibration, respiratory and chemical hazards. Additional Requirements The incumbent is required to be immediately accessible to a phone and be able to report to work within one (1) hour of being called. Once the CDL permit is obtained, they must submit to a Federal Department of Transportation drug test (with negative test results), is subject to future random drug and alcohol testing and is registered in the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration's Commercial Driver's License Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse. A revoked, suspended or canceled Driver's License within the last 5 years may disqualify a candidate or three serious traffic violations during any 12 month period of time will disqualify a candidate.
