Job Description
Journeyman ElectricianPosition Overview We are seeking a skilled Journeyman Electrician to install, maintain, and repair electrical systems across commercial and light-industrial projects. The ideal candidate will ensure safe, code-compliant work while supporting low-voltage and limited-power installations, security systems, and providing leadership to junior technicians.
Key ResponsibilitiesInstall, troubleshoot, and repair electrical systems, including branch circuits, panels, feeders, and limited-power systems in commercial and light-industrial environments.
Install, terminate, and test low-voltage systems such as access control, CCTV, intrusion alarms, and fire alarm interfaces in accordance with project specifications.
Plan and execute security system installations, including mounting devices, wiring, programming controllers, and verifying functionality with system integrators.
Read and interpret blueprints, electrical schematics, riser diagrams, and installation instructions to determine work requirements and materials.
Perform code-compliant wiring and terminations consistent with the National Electrical Code (NEC) and local electrical regulations; coordinate inspections and obtain sign-offs as required.
Perform system testing, commissioning, and field adjustments; document test results, troubleshooting steps, and repairs in service reports.
Provide on-site leadership and mentorship to apprentices and helpers; coordinate with project managers, general contractors, and other trades to maintain project schedules.
Maintain tools, equipment, and vehicle stock; ensure proper labeling, cable management, and housekeeping on job sites.
Respond to service calls and emergency repairs in a timely, professional manner; diagnose problems and recommend long-term solutions.
Adhere to safety protocols, conduct routine safety inspections, complete required paperwork, and participate in safety meetings and training.
QualificationsValid Journeyman Electrician license or equivalent certification as required by state/local authorities (required).3+ years of hands-on experience as a Journeyman Electrician on commercial or light-industrial projects (required).Demonstrated experience with low-voltage systems (access control, CCTV, intrusion alarms) and limited-power installations (preferred/strongly desired).Experience installing and configuring security systems and working with system integrators (preferred).Strong knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC), local electrical codes, and industry best practices (required).Comfortable reading electrical blueprints, riser diagrams, and technical schematics; able to calculate load, conduit fill, and conductor sizing (required).Valid drivers license, reliable transportation, and willingness to travel to job sites as needed (required).OSHA 10 or 30-hour safety certification or equivalent; ability to work safely at heights and in confined spaces (required/preferred).Good communication skills, professional demeanor, and ability to work independently or as part of a team; experience mentoring apprentices (preferred).Willingness to submit to background check and drug screening as required by clients; able to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physically demanding tasks (required).
