Duties and Responsibilities Installation and cleaning, expansion and modification of electrical services, power centers, transformers, and circuit breaker panels. Review construction plans and prints for projects to provide comments and suggestions for installations. Measure, cut, and bend and installation of all varieties of electrical conduit. Coordinate, escort, and inspect work performed by outside contractors. Assist high voltage electrician when needed. Assist high voltage electrician with the operation of high voltage and medium voltage switches when needed. Installation, service, and repair of all types of electrical terminal equipment including heaters, motors, lights, fans, pumps, dishwashers, ovens, boilers, hot water heaters, and a wide variety of other electrical or electronic equipment. Layout estimate material and labor for projects, as well as plan and schedule projects with specific contact persons. Repair may include analysis and diagnosis of the reasons for a failure and repair/replacement of such parts as control wiring, transformers, switches, relays, contactors, circuit breakers, safety devices, heating elements, thermostats, light ballasts, light bulbs or other types of devices, commonly found in the electrically operated machinery or equipment. Test generators, synchronous motors, and motor generators using electrical and mechanical tools and testing instruments. Isolate and/or remove power in the event of breakdowns or for necessary repairs. Operate a medium voltage substation, relays, switches and breakers. Check and interprets substation instrument readings and takes corrective action as necessary. Monitor power distribution switchboards. Prepare and interprets logs and reports reflecting power production, consumption, and operating conditions. Adhere to applicable safety rules, precautions and procedures while working on "hot" electrical systems including the use of appropriate safety equipment. Change, connect, disconnect, parallel or affect substitutions for electrical equipment and conductors, using the switch gear mode of operation. Read blueprints to trace routing of electrical cables. Read schematic diagrams to determine and resolve electrical system problems. Select and use the appropriate splice kit and tape for line repair. Comply with legal, procedural, safety and record keeping requirements for electrical work. Operate a lift truck or bucket lift truck to make electrical repairs on street and sign lighting. All other duties as assigned. SAFETY Work safely by using Personal Protective Equipment, maintaining equipment, following safety procedures and policies, etc. Leave the work area clean and functional at the end of shift Be aware of and report any potential safety hazards to supervisor or management immediately Cooperate with safety investigations and audits Attend safety training sessions and maintain licenses, certifications, etc. Required Qualifications Five years of journey-level or practical experience in the electrical trade OR an equivalent combination of experience and training. Knowledge and understanding of building automation control for electrical system. Some examples are lighting automatized clock systems, window blinds and shades, motorized equipment such as retractable basketball backboards, room dividers, and elevating baseball batting nets. Ability to service, program troubleshoot, modify, and repair of such systems. Knowledge of PC programs and operations to use in conjunction with lighting automation panels. Knowledge and understanding of low voltage controls in an electrical building automation system such as schedulers, occupancy and motion sensors, relay controls light harvesting controls, dimmer controls, and photocell controls. Meet with building occupants to discuss operations and recommendations to support their needs in programing of these systems. Tools used in the conduct of this work include voltage testers, ohmmeters, ampere meters, punches, pipe-threaders, pipe benders, drills, pulling equipment, and a wide variety of hand tools including pliers, screwdrivers, wrenches, wire strippers hammers, chisels, power benders. Desktop and Laptop computers. Excellent oral, written, interpersonal communication skills. Commitment to inclusive practices and working with diverse student populations. Valid driver's license. Frequently work on or around energized circuits and equipment.
