Commercial Electrician Job Description This role focuses on installing large, structurally robust, illuminated commercial signs and related electrical components in a complex construction environment. You will read and interpret plans and blueprints, perform commercial electrical tasks, and carry out installation work similar in complexity to themed attraction structures. The position blends commercial electrical work with construction, metal fabrication, and structural installation duties. Responsibilities Read and interpret construction plans and blueprints to understand project specifications and installation requirements. Install large commercial signs and structures with integrated lighting, ensuring safe and secure mounting and proper electrical connections. Perform commercial electrical tasks, including routing, pulling, and terminating wiring in accordance with plans and applicable standards. Use a variety of hand and power tools such as tape measures, hammers, drills, chop saws, ratchets, and other equipment to complete installations. Carry out core drilling, concrete drilling, and bolting to anchor signs and support structures securely. Hang and install unistrut and similar support systems to create stable mounting points for large signs and structural components. Operate tools such as hammer drills, core drills, band saws, and chop saws to cut, shape, and prepare materials for installation. Work at height as needed, including on scaffolding or elevated platforms, to install and secure signs and associated electrical components. Collaborate with construction teams, scaffolders, and carpenters to coordinate installation activities and ensure alignment with broader project schedules. Inspect completed installations for structural integrity, proper alignment, and correct electrical function, making adjustments as needed. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area, following site safety procedures and using tools and equipment correctly. Troubleshoot installation and electrical issues on site and implement effective solutions to keep projects on track. Essential Skills At least 5+ years of experience in large structural installations or 5+ years of experience in construction. Ability to read and interpret construction plans and blueprints accurately. Hands-on experience with commercial electrical work, including basic wiring and light electrical systems. Proficiency using hand and power tools, including tape measures, hammers, drills, chop saws, ratchets, and similar equipment. Demonstrated skill with core drilling, concrete drilling, and bolting for structural installations. Experience hanging and installing unistrut and other structural support systems. Comfort working in construction environments and on active job sites. Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to perform precise, high-quality installation work. Ability to work safely at heights and on scaffolding or elevated platforms. Reliable communication and teamwork skills to coordinate with construction and installation crews. Additional Skills & Qualifications Background in aircraft maintenance is considered highly transferable and beneficial. Experience with curtainwall installation or similar façade systems is a strong plus. Prior experience with large, illuminated sign installations or themed attraction-style structures is advantageous. Familiarity with scaffolding work and collaborating with scaffolders and carpenters. Ability to adapt to complex, high-profile construction projects such as airport terminals or large commercial developments. Strong attention to detail and a commitment to quality workmanship. Work Environment This role is based on an active construction site in a new terminal environment, working within a secure and controlled facility. You will frequently work with hand and power tools such as hammer drills, core drills, band saws, chop saws, and other construction equipment. The position involves physical work, including lifting, drilling into concrete, bolting, and working at heights on scaffolding or elevated platforms. Hours generally align with standard construction shifts, with on-site coordination alongside other trades. The environment is fast-paced and safety-focused, requiring appropriate work attire and adherence to site safety protocols. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Houston, TX 77032. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $40.00/hr.
