POSITION SUMMARY
Mayer Solar is seeking an experienced and licensed Master Electrician to serve in a critical in-office role supporting our growing solar installation operations. This is not a field installation position — you will be the primary electrical authority in our office, fielding technical questions from field crews, managing and mentoring a team of electricians, ensuring all jobs are properly tied out and closed, and upholding the highest standards of code compliance across every project. A strong background in solar photovoltaic systems — including battery storage and backup installations — is essential.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Field & Technical Support Serve as the primary point of contact for field electricians needing on-the-spot technical guidance, code interpretation, or troubleshooting assistance Answer questions related to NEC code compliance, solar interconnections, battery system wiring, load calculations, and AHJ-specific requirements Review and approve wiring diagrams, single-line drawings, and system schematics submitted by field teams Coordinate with inspectors and utilities on technical electrical matters as needed Team Management Manage, supervise, and mentor a team of journeyman and apprentice electricians Assign work, monitor performance, and conduct technical coaching sessions Ensure all team members are operating within license scope and following company safety protocols Assist in hiring, onboarding, and evaluating electrical staff Job Closeout & Compliance Oversee and ensure the accurate and timely closeout (tie-out) of all electrical jobs upon project completion Verify that all permits, inspections, and final sign-offs are completed in accordance with applicable codes and company standards Review as-built documentation and confirm accuracy before project close Maintain detailed records of completed work, open permits, and outstanding inspections Identify and resolve any discrepancies or deficiencies discovered during job reviews Solar & Battery Systems Provide expertise on solar PV system design, installation standards, and performance expectations Support field teams on battery energy storage system (BESS) installations including Sonnen, Enphase, Tesla Powerwall, SolarEdge, and similar platforms Stay current on evolving battery backup codes, interconnection rules, and utility-specific requirements across service territories Review battery installation scopes and flag any compliance or safety concerns prior to dispatch
QUALIFICATIONS
Required Active Master Electrician license (Texas license required; multi-state preferred) Minimum 5 years of hands-on electrical experience, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or management capacity Demonstrated knowledge of solar PV systems, grid-tied interconnections, and battery energy storage installation Strong command of the National Electrical Code (NEC) and Texas state electrical statutes Experience overseeing permit processes and coordinating with AHJs Excellent communication skills — able to translate complex technical issues into clear direction for field teams Comfortable working in an office-based role while managing remote field staff Preferred
NABCEP PV
Installation Professional or Associate certification Experience with Sonnen, Enphase, Tesla Powerwall, SolarEdge, or Franklin WH battery platforms Familiarity with Texas utility interconnection processes (Oncor, AEP, CenterPoint, etc.) Prior experience in a solar company, electrical contracting firm, or EPC environment Proficiency with project management or CRM platforms (e.g., HubSpot, monday.com, or similar)
