Job Title:
Electrician Job Description The Hospital Electrician installs, maintains, and repairs electrical systems that support both standard facility operations and critical patient-care environments. This role focuses on power distribution, life-support systems, emergency power supply systems, specialized medical equipment, and strict compliance with healthcare-specific electrical codes and regulations. The position requires strong technical expertise, rapid troubleshooting, and a consistent commitment to safety and reliability in a hospital setting. Responsibilities Install, maintain, and repair electrical systems that support hospital operations and critical patient-care areas. Work on power distribution systems, including panels, circuit breakers, and associated wiring, to ensure reliable electrical service. Support and maintain life-support systems and emergency power supply systems (EPSS) to ensure continuous operation during power interruptions. Install, service, and troubleshoot specialized medical equipment while protecting sensitive devices from electrical damage. Interpret and work from blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings to plan and execute electrical installations and repairs. Run, bend, and install conduit for new and existing electrical circuits, including pulling and terminating wire. Perform testing and diagnostics on electrical systems using advanced test equipment to identify faults and verify safe operation. Apply electrical theory and mathematical skills to calculate loads, sizing, and other parameters required for safe system design and maintenance. Troubleshoot low-voltage systems and related hospital electrical infrastructure as needed. Ensure all work complies with the National Electrical Code (NEC), NFPA 99, and applicable building regulations and healthcare standards. Follow strict safety procedures when working around sensitive medical equipment and in patient-care environments. Document work performed, including tests, repairs, and modifications, in accordance with facility and regulatory requirements. Collaborate with other trades and hospital staff to coordinate electrical work with ongoing operations and maintenance activities. Essential Skills Licensed Electrician with a state-approved license (Apprentice or Journeyman). Strong knowledge of electrical theory, power distribution, and hospital electrical systems. Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints, schematics, and other technical drawings. Ability to diagnose and repair complex electrical systems using advanced test and diagnostic equipment. Hands-on experience with electrical wiring, conduit bending, pipe bending, and pulling wire. Working knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC), NFPA 99, and relevant building regulations. Ability to distinguish wire colors accurately and work safely around sensitive medical equipment. Strong troubleshooting skills for both standard and low-voltage electrical systems. Competence in testing and diagnostics to verify system integrity and safety. Mathematical skills sufficient to perform calculations related to electrical loads, sizing, and layouts. Mechanical aptitude to support installation and maintenance of electrical and related mechanical components. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience working in healthcare or other critical-infrastructure environments. Familiarity with emergency power supply systems (EPSS) and life-support system requirements. Comfort working with lighting systems, mechanical interfaces, and specialized hospital equipment. Ability to interpret and follow detailed technical instructions and safety procedures. Strong attention to detail and documentation practices in a regulated environment. Why Work Here? The position involves regular use of electrical test equipment, tools for conduit bending and wire pulling, and reference to technical drawings and codes. Work is performed indoors within a regulated, safety-focused setting where adherence to hospital procedures, cleanliness standards, and appropriate professional attire is required. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Fort Worth, TX. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $40.00/hr.
