Job Description
About the Role As a Shipboard Electrical Technician, you will play a critical role in maintaining the operational integrity of maritime vessels by installing, troubleshooting, and repairing complex electrical systems. You will leverage your expertise in electrical theory to ensure all shipboard power and lighting circuits meet rigorous safety and performance standards. Responsibilities Execute the installation of electrical components, including cable routing, termination, and connector fabrication. Perform comprehensive diagnostic testing on internal circuits to identify and resolve shorts, grounds, and open circuits. Maintain and repair critical shipboard equipment, ensuring all mechanical and electrical connections are secure and functional. Implement Lock-out Tag-out (LOTO) protocols to ensure a safe working environment during all maintenance activities. Interpret complex electrical diagrams, blueprints, and technical manuals to guide installation and repair processes. Document work outcomes through Objective Quality Evidence (OQE) and detailed condition reports to ensure compliance with maritime standards. Qualifications Required Skills Minimum of 6 years of professional experience in electrical installation and repair. Proficiency in reading and interpreting electrical schematics, blueprints, and technical specifications. Strong understanding of electrical theory, including Ohm's Law and the use of precision measuring instruments. Physical capability to work in confined spaces, at heights, and in varied environmental conditions while utilizing necessary PPE. Preferred Skills Familiarity with ABS, IEEE, and Coast Guard electrical standards. Experience working with shipboard power distribution systems (600V and below). Proven ability to troubleshoot mechanical linkages and control wiring in marine environments.
