12-months (260 days) Job Summary The Electrician performs inspections, repairs and preventive maintenance of all electrical equipment (high & low voltage) inside and outside of all buildings within the Division. This position reports to the Supervisor, Facilities & Maintenance. Essential Job Functions Accurately diagnose electrical glitches of all types. Install, maintain and repair electrical systems; maintain records and files. Inspect, troubleshoot, assemble, install, connect, repair, adjust and test a wide variety of electrical systems using standard electrical codes and appropriate safety procedures. Repair electrical services and switch panels. Install underground cables and overhead wiring. Install and maintain lighting systems such as fluorescent and general light fixtures. Maintain and repair fire alarm systems. Repair and maintain kitchen appliances. Install and wire control devices on heating systems such as boilers, fan coil units, and baseboard electric heat. Replace and maintain electric motors. Install wiring in buildings, which include piping, switches, receptacles and lights. Install and maintain remote control devices for magnetic motor connections and relays. Test, repair and calibrate electrical equipment, meters, relays, etc. Replace and repair switches and receptacles. Coordinate with other departments and building administrators to complete job assignments. Operate different tools (hand tools-hand saw, electric saw, planers, joiners, soldering irons, test equipment, office equipment, machinery etc.) relevant to repairs and installations. Provides training and guidance to technicians. Monitor work done by outside contractors for adherence to National Electrical Code requirements and report back to supervisor. Perform related work as required. Job Specifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required) Thorough knowledge of the National Electrical Code, standard practices, tools, test equipment and terminology of the electrical trade. Thorough knowledge of electrical theory and the ability to make repairs to complicated electrical wiring, fixtures and equipment. Must be able to read and understand electrical building drawings and blueprints.
Minimum Qualifications Education :
High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma required.
Experience:
Four years as licensed, journey-level wireman in commercial, industrial, or facilities operations or combination of education and experience
Certification and License :
Valid Virginia Driver's License. Master or Journeyman's License. Working Conditions and Physical Demands Demonstrates ability to climb ladders and work at heights up to 60 feet.( Height reached by bucket truck and single man lift) Must have the ability to stand for extended periods of time; exhibit manual dexterity to operate equipment; see and read printed material with or without vision aids; hear and understand speech at normal levels; speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly in person and on the telephone; ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions; physical agility to lift 50 pounds; to bend, stoop and reach overhead.
