Job Summary The Plant Electrician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of electrical systems and equipment within the coal processing plant. This role ensures maximum equipment uptime, safe operation, and compliance with MSHA regulations, company policies, and electrical codes. Job Description
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Visibly support and champion Peabody's Mission and Values. Diagnose and repair electrical issues on plant equipment including: Conveyors, crushers, screens, pumps, and prep plant systems Perform preventive and predictive maintenance on: Motors, VFDs, MCCs, switchgear, transformers, and control circuits Use schematics, blueprints, and technical manuals to isolate faults Minimize downtime through efficient troubleshooting and repair Install and commission electrical systems and components Assist in plant upgrades, retrofits, and capital projects Ensure proper grounding, bonding, and cable management practices Verify system functionality through testing and calibration Physical Requirements
SURFACE ENVIRONMENT
Must have the ability to stand for up to 4 hours per shift Must have the ability to be seated for up to 4 hours to operate equipment or vehicles Must have the ability to work from elevated positions, walk/climb up and down stairs/steps and climb on/off equipment and ladders Must have the ability to wear required protective footwear, hearing and eye protection, and other personal protective equipment as required by Company and MSHA Must have the ability to perform repetitive hand and wrist motions (push, pull, twist, handle), and have rapid reflex movements of the arms/legs and good hand to eye coordination Must have the ability to lift/raise 50 lbs. without mechanical assistance frequently during the work shift Must have the ability to work in extreme conditions, including but not limited to changing weather conditions, dust, mud, varying levels of noise from low to high decibels, varying degrees of light/dark, in and around artificial light, and in a confined work area Must have the ability to work various shifts (required shifts include days, evening and nights, with rotating schedules, weekends and holidays)
Education/Experience:
Strong understanding of: AC/DC systems Motor controls and PLC basics Electrical distribution systems Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and ladder diagrams Experience with: PLC troubleshooting (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, etc.) Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs) High-voltage systems (up to 13.8kV or site-specific) Proficient with electrical testing equipment: Multimeters, meggers, clamp meters High school diploma or
GED MSHA
Surface Certification Part - 46 or 48 (If candidate does not have MSHA Electrical card employee will be required to obtain within two years of employment.) Education High School Degree or GED Equivalent required
