Job Description
Summary:
The Component Estimator plays a critical role in supporting Central States' sales team by producing accurate, detailed estimates, and takeoffs for metal roofing and siding systems. You will interpret construction drawings, scope projects, and create comprehensive component lists to ensure timely and precise proposals. This role combines technical expertise, construction knowledge, and strong communication skills to support both internal teams and external customers while maintaining the highest standards of quality and accuracy.Core Functions:
Prepare detailed takeoffs, layouts using estimating software such as TopView, AppliCad X. Support the sales team with accurate and comprehensive component lists to facilitate proposals and project planning. Interpret construction drawings, blueprints, and project specifications to determine material scope and fitment for Central States' products. Collaborate with internal stakeholders and external customers to clarify project details, scope, and limitations. Manage multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring deadlines and quality standards are consistently met. Provide timely updates on project status, scheduling, and any design or estimation discrepancies. Learn and utilize additional software tools to support Engineering, Marketing, Product Management, and other company initiatives. Identify opportunities for cost optimization and recommend solutions to improve efficiency and accuracy. Produce accurate estimates, takeoffs, and component lists with minimal variance from actual project costs. Complete multiple projects on time while maintaining high-quality standards. Communicate project information clearly and professionally to internal teams and external customers. Proactively identify and resolve discrepancies in design or estimation within established timeframes. Education & Experience:
Minimum Requirements Associate degree in a related field, or equivalent construction/estimating experience. Proficiency with construction estimating software (TopView, AppliCad X, AutoCAD, or similar). Basic knowledge of construction methods and materials. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. Flexibility to work occasional overtime as needed. Preferred Qualifications Vocational or technical degree in drafting, construction, or related field. Experience in metal roofing estimation, shop drawings, and installation methods. Two or more years of experience using construction material estimating software. Previous experience collaborating with sales teams or customer-facing roles.Physical Demands & Work Environment:
Work is performed in an office environment. This role will routinely utilize standard office equipment to perform the core functions listed in this job description. This position requires the ability to occasionally lift office products and supplies as well as communicate verbally and electronically. The work is primarily sedentary and requires extensive reading to perform the core functions listed in this job description. While performing the core function of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk, hear, and stand.
