Job Description

SW Construction is a construction company that specializes in public works projects and is seeking a Junior Estimator to join our team. This position includes analyzing blueprints, specifications, and other technical documents to understand the project scope. Strong understanding of construction methods, materials, and legal requirements. Prepare detailed cost estimates for public works BIDs based on plans, specifications, and other relevant documents.
This includes:
Identifying labor, material, equipment, and time requirements. Analyzing subcontractor and vendor bids. Calculating costs for various construction elements (e.g., Under Ground Utility, Process Piping, foundations, framing, finishes). Assess existing site conditions, gather data, and evaluate potential challenges. Identify potential risks associated with construction projects and incorporate them into cost estimates. Excellent communication, negotiation, analytical, and critical thinking skills. Ability to meticulously analyze documents and identify potential cost impacts. Ability to manage multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and prioritize effectively. Familiar with relevant regulations is essential for accurate cost estimation. Work independently but also collaborate with the team. Collaborate with engineers, architects, project managers, and other stakeholders to gather information and refine estimates. Analyze potential risks and develop strategies to minimize cost overruns. Create comprehensive change order proposals for clients or project stakeholders. Track material and labor costs, and update databases with current information Evaluate bids and negotiate contracts with subcontractors to secure favorable pricing. A basic understanding of accounting is helpful for managing project costs and financial reporting. Proficiency in estimation software (e.g., HCSS, Bid to Win, Bluebeam), CAD software, and other relevant tools. We prefer a bachelor's degree in engineering, Math, Construction Management, or a related field, or 5 years previous experience in estimating civil and public works related construction projects. Hourly pay rate will be determined based on experience.
