Job Description

Valley Alpha Electric is seeking a Senior Preconstruction Estimator to help lead the next stage of growth within our preconstruction department. This is a high-impact role for an experienced electrical estimating professional who enjoys complex industrial projects, early project strategy, client collaboration, and turning incomplete information into reliable budgets and executable plans. The ideal candidate will bring strong electrical estimating experience, sound judgment, and the ability to bridge the gap between engineering, clients, vendors, and field operations. You will support negotiated, design-assist, design-build, and industrial construction opportunities while helping standardize estimating processes, improve handoffs, and strengthen project outcomes from day one.
WHY JOIN VALLEY ALPHA ELECTRIC?
  • Work on meaningful industrial electrical projects across mining, food processing, manufacturing, agriculture, and heavy commercial environments.
  • Join a company that values technical accuracy, practical field experience, collaboration, and long-term client relationships.
  • Play a visible role in shaping preconstruction standards, estimating practices, and project planning processes.
  • Collaborate closely with leadership, project management, engineering, and field teams in a hands-on, team-oriented environment.
  • Receive competitive compensation with performance bonus opportunity.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
  • Lead advanced estimating and budgeting. Prepare conceptual, design-assist, design-build, and negotiated estimates for complex industrial electrical projects, often from early-stage or incomplete drawing sets.
  • Develop accurate and organized estimates. Use Conest IntelliBid to create detailed material takeoffs, labor pricing, assemblies, bid summaries, and proposal support.
  • Evaluate project risk. Review specifications, drawings, scopes, exclusions, schedules, and proposal requirements to identify cost, constructability, and coordination risks.
  • Coordinate vendors and equipment pricing. Solicit, review, and negotiate specialized vendor, manufacturer, and long lead-time equipment quotes.
  • Serve as a preconstruction liaison. Communicate with industrial clients, plant managers, engineering teams, general contractors, utilities, vendors, and internal project teams.
  • Support utility and permitting coordination. Help manage PG&E applications, service upgrades, temporary power planning, and municipal permitting workflows to reduce mobilization delays.
  • Lead project handoffs. Transfer estimating data, vendor commitments, assumptions, risks, and logistical constraints to project management and field operations.
  • Improve department standards. Help develop estimating procedures, value engineering practices, industrial assemblies, database updates, and preconstruction tracking tools.
  • Mentor and collaborate with peers.
Review complex estimates, share best practices, and support continuous improvement within the preconstruction team.
