This role handles bid takeoffs, plan and specification review, quantity calculations, and subcontractor/supplier quote solicitation under the direction of the Senior Estimator. Strong attention to detail and organization are critical, as outputs feed directly into bid pricing and contract compliance. Key Responsibilities Perform quantity takeoffs from plans, specifications, and bid documents (asphalt tonnage, milling square footage, striping, traffic control, etc.) Download and organize bid packages from public agency portals (Caltrans, city/county, DIR-related postings) Solicit and track quotes from subcontractors, material suppliers, and rental vendors; log responses and follow up on outstanding bids Maintain and update unit cost databases, rate sheets, and historical bid data Assemble bid forms, schedules of values, and required compliance documents (DBE/SBE participation, prevailing wage acknowledgments, bonding paperwork) Verify project requirements including prevailing wage classifications, DIR registration, license, and bonding thresholds Track bid due dates, addenda, and pre-bid meeting requirements; flag deadlines to the estimating team Support post-bid documentation, including bid result tracking and scope confirmation Assist with takeoff software, spreadsheets, and digital plan tools Required Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent; coursework or degree in construction management, civil engineering, or related field preferred 1+ years in construction estimating, project coordination, or a related support role (paving/civil/public works a plus) Proficiency in Microsoft Excel; ability to build and maintain organized workbooks Strong math skills and accuracy with quantity calculations Ability to read and interpret construction plans and specifications Highly organized with strong follow-through on deadlines Preferred Qualifications Familiarity with public works bidding and prevailing wage / DIR compliance Experience with takeoff/estimating software (Bluebeam, HCSS HeavyBid,Quickbooks,Word,Excel. Knowledge of asphalt paving, milling, concrete,underground. Skills & Attributes Detail-oriented and accurate under deadline pressure Self-directed; able to manage multiple bids simultaneously Clear written and verbal communication for vendor and subcontractor outreach Discretion with confidential pricing and bid information
