We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-driven Construction Estimator to join our team, specializing in public works electrical construction projects. This role is focused primarily on estimating - building accurate, competitive bids that win work and set our project teams up for success. The ideal candidate has a strong background in electrical estimating, a sharp eye for scope and detail, and a comprehensive understanding of public works bidding and contracting procedures. Responsibilities Estimating (Primary Focus) Prepare detailed and accurate cost estimates for public works electrical projects, including traffic signal and street lighting work. Review project plans, specifications, and other bid documents to identify scope, materials, and labor requirements. Take off quantities and develop material, labor, and equipment costs from drawings and specifications. Solicit, evaluate, and level quotes from subcontractors and vendors to ensure competitive, complete pricing. Conduct site visits as needed to assess project conditions and identify potential challenges or opportunities affecting cost. Analyze bid documents for risk, ambiguities, and exclusions, and prepare clarifying questions (RFIs) during the bid period. Develop and maintain a comprehensive database of historical project costs, unit prices, and labor rates. Assemble and submit complete, compliant bid packages in accordance with public works bidding requirements and deadlines. Track bid results and follow up on awarded projects, including value engineering and budget reviews as needed. Bid Handoff & Post-Award Support Support a smooth transition of awarded projects to the project management team, including a thorough handoff of estimate assumptions, scope, and subcontractor/vendor commitments. Assist with the preparation of initial project budgets and schedules of values based on the winning estimate. Provide ongoing estimating support during construction for change orders and scope modifications, as needed. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent work experience). 3-5+ years of experience in electrical construction estimating , with a focus on public works projects. Proven track record of preparing competitive, accurate bids for public works electrical and/or traffic signal/street lighting projects. Strong understanding of public works bidding and contracting procedures, including prevailing wage and DBE/subcontractor requirements. Proficiency in construction estimating software and standard project management tools. Excellent communication and negotiation skills for working with subcontractors, vendors, and clients. Ability to read and interpret plans, electrical schematics, and technical specifications. Strong analytical skills with high attention to detail and accuracy under deadline pressure.
