Job Description

Join a high-performing estimating team supporting high voltage electrical construction projects throughout Southern California. Hampton Tedder Electric Co. was established in 1958 and is a family-owned and operated company with a proven track record of safe, compliant, and reliable service. We are seeking a detail-oriented and driven Estimator to support competitive bid preparation for high voltage electrical construction projects. This role is responsible for developing accurate, well-documented cost estimates from project inception through bid submission. The successful candidate will work closely with project managers, field operations, vendors, and subcontractors to ensure pricing reflects true project requirements and market conditions. The ideal candidate will bring direct experience in electrical construction estimating, a strong command of take-off and pricing methodology, and the ability to work independently under deadline pressure. We will provide training on company-specific systems and processes, but candidates must arrive with established analytical, organizational, and communication skills. This is a fast-moving environment that rewards proactive self-starters who take ownership of their work without waiting to be directed. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Prepare detailed cost estimates for high voltage electrical construction projects Review project drawings, specifications, and bid documents for scope and accuracy Perform quantity take-offs and thorough pricing analysis Solicit and evaluate subcontractor and supplier quotations Assist in the preparation and timely submission of competitive bids Maintain organized, accurate, and defensible project documentation throughout the bid process Coordinate with project managers and field operations to validate assumptions and cost inputs Monitor bid calendar and manage multiple estimates simultaneously under tight deadlines Support post-bid review and analysis to improve future estimate accuracy Maintain strict confidentiality and professionalism at all times Candidate must be able to meet the following requirements: Strong analytical and mathematical ability with a high tolerance for detail and accuracy Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and estimating software (experience with Accubid, Bid2Win, or similar platforms preferred) Ability to read and interpret electrical construction drawings, specifications, and contract documents Strong organizational habits and documentation discipline Ability to prioritize competing deadlines and manage workload independently with minimal supervision Comfort working directly with a senior leader in a fast-paced, results-driven environment Must be able to communicate questions and project updates verbally and by phone; this role requires direct voice communication rather than reliance on email or text for time-sensitive matters Strong professional judgment and the ability to exercise discretion with sensitive bid and pricing information Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines consistently and follow through on commitments without reminder Must be able to perform standard physical office tasks including lifting up to 25 pounds, bending, reaching, filing, and sustained sitting or standing at a workstation
Education:
Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Electrical Engineering, or a related field (Preferred) Associate's degree with demonstrated estimating experience will be considered Equivalent combination of education and hands-on electrical construction estimating experience may substitute for a formal degree
Experience:
Electrical construction estimating: 2+ years (Preferred) High voltage or utility-scale electrical projects: 1+ year (Preferred) Bid preparation and subcontractor solicitation: 2+ years (Preferred) Construction or industrial project environment: 2+ years (Preferred)
Essential Skills:
Advanced Microsoft Excel skills including formulas, pivot tables, and cost modeling Proficiency in estimating software platforms Strong written and verbal communication skills Ability to collaborate cross-functionally with project managers, operations, and field teams High attention to detail with a pattern-recognition mindset for identifying pricing anomalies Demonstrated ability to work independently and self-direct daily workload Proactive problem-solving approach with the ability to anticipate project needs Effective time management across multiple concurrent bids Typing speed 45+ WPM Applicant must pass proficiency tests for typing, math, and Excel before being considered for an interview Applicant must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screening during the new hire process

$70,000.00 - $85,000.00 per year
