Job Description
Job description Summary Our client's San Diego division is seeking an experienced Estimator to manage and coordinate all estimating activities for plumbing and mechanical construction projects. This role requires strong accuracy, attention to detail, and a focus on profitability. It also involves developing and maintaining trusted relationships with Estimating Departments across the targeted General Contractor network. Candidates with experience estimating plumbing, mechanical, hydronics, hospitality, sports facilities, healthcare, or similar project types are strongly encouraged to apply. Duties & Responsibilities Business Development & Opportunity Assessment Maintain regular communication with Pre-Construction Departments of targeted General Contractors to identify new project opportunities Evaluate opportunities to ensure alignment with business goals, competitive strengths, and desired margins Estimating & Pre-Construction Review plans, P&IDs, specifications, and contracts to fully understand scope, cost impacts, and potential risks Utilize computer-based takeoff and estimating systems to produce consistent and accurate estimates Support the sales process, including scope development, client engagement, presentations, negotiations, and closing Project Setup & Coordination Assist in preparing budgets for project kickoff and any priced change order work Participate in project kickoff meetings to present scope, work plans, budgets, special requirements, and limitations Project Execution Support Monitor work progress to compare actual production rates against bid assumptions Assist with preparing project forecasts, schedules, and claims when needed Support productivity tracking of labor units and participate in weekly staff meetings to review scope deviations, production rates, and future work Help develop corrective action plans when performance falls short of budgeted expectations Qualifications & Requirements Minimum 3 years of plumbing and/or mechanical estimating experience Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel HCAI experience a plus Experience with Trimble Autobid or other sheetmetal/piping estimating software Field or craft experience strongly preferred Solid understanding of plumbing, piping, ductwork, and equipment installation Working knowledge of applicable plumbing, piping, and sheetmetal codes and standards Bachelor's degree in Construction Management or Mechanical Engineering preferred
