This role supports the full quote-to-order process by translating CUI customer drawings and specifications into accurate labor estimates along with fixture/tooling estimates with fabrication. This is a customer-focused engineering role with a strong emphasis on technical quoting, force/pressure analysis, and cross-functional collaboration. The Quoting Engineer partners closely with Operations to deliver accurate, competitive, and timely quotations that support business growth and margin objectives.
Key Responsibilities:
Facilitate proper CUI transfers and storage, report incidents and participate in updates to
CUI/CMMC
program. Review aerospace‑specific RFQs, SOWs, technical drawings, and government documents. Interpret engineering drawings, CAD models, and specifications to determine production complexity, safety and cost drivers. Calculate safety ratings for pressure, vacuum and volume related to testing of UUT and fabrication of fixtures/tooling. Research, design and propose CAD drawings for fixtures required to execute testing requirements for customer assemblies. Develop detailed estimates and relay instructions/requirements for aerospace components, assemblies, and systems, including testing and special processes. Build cost/list estimates for labor, materials, subcontractors, equipment, manufacturing workflows, inspection, and quality assurance. Translating complex technical specifications into actionable, non-technical steps and highlighting the associated costs to ensure the Technicians can properly support the customer. Ensure full compliance with FAR, DFARS, ITAR, NIST-800 and agency‑specific standards (DoD, USAF, USN, NASA). Collaborate with operations team to gather previous, missing, and critical data and validate estimations. Solicit and evaluate subcontractor and supplier quotes for aerospace‑grade materials and processes related to fabrication. Prepare pricing summaries, pressure/safety ratings documentation, and proposals. Lead and support pre‑award and post‑award negotiations including; quote revisions, engineering changes, variance requests, UUT deviations. Additional Responsibilities Participate in Customer Support Team meetings to ensure progress of action items. Enter data of completed jobs to track Profit/Loss and report summaries to Operations. Contribute experience and knowledge to the improvement of SOP's, Local Procedures, Process flow as necessary. Perform other duties as assigned in support of business needs
Qualifications:
Proven experience as an Estimator within the aerospace or defense industry. Strong understanding of FAR/DFARS, cost‑plus and fixed‑price contract structures, and government procurement processes. Familiarity with aerospace manufacturing workflows (machining, composites, assembly, testing). Ability to interpret complex engineering drawings, models, and technical documentation. Proficiency in estimating software and ERP systems commonly used in aerospace manufacturing. Excellent analytical, mathematical, and documentation skills. Ability to work cross‑functionally with engineering, operations, Customer Support Team.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
AA or BA preferred Two to three years' experience in a similar position Proficient with SolidWorks, Office365, QuickBooks Working knowledge of office process flow Working knowledge of aerospace procedures, flow down requirements, drawings
