The Civil Estimator will analyze project plans and specifications, quantify materials and labor, develop bid packages, and collaborate with project managers, engineers, and subcontractors to support successful project procurement and execution. The ideal candidate has strong estimating experience in civil infrastructure and commercial construction, exceptional analytical skills, and the ability to communicate cost drivers and risk effectively. Key Responsibilities Analyze drawings, specifications, and scope of work to produce detailed quantity take-offs and cost estimates for earthwork, utilities, paving, drainage, structures, and site improvements. Prepare clear, comprehensive bid proposals and estimate documentation, including assumptions, unit rates, detailed pricing breakdowns, and risk contingencies. Solicit, evaluate, and incorporate subcontractor and supplier quotes; compare alternatives and recommend value engineering options to optimize project costs. Work closely with project managers, engineers, and procurement to align estimates with schedule, constructability, and contract requirements. Maintain and update estimating databases, historical cost records, unit price libraries, and standard assemblies to improve estimate accuracy and efficiency. Perform sensitivity and risk analyses to identify cost drivers and recommend mitigation strategies; present findings to leadership during bid review. Ensure compliance with contract specifications, permit requirements, and local construction standards when developing estimates. Support pre-bid meetings, site visits, and client interactions to clarify scope and gather critical information for accurate pricing. Qualifications Bachelors degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field, or equivalent work experience. 3+ years of civil and commercial construction estimating experience with demonstrated success preparing competitive bids. Proficient in takeoff and estimating software (e.g., Bluebeam, PlanSwift, HCSS, Timberline/CostX) and Microsoft Office suite (Excel proficiency required). Strong knowledge of civil construction methods, materials, equipment productivity rates, and unit pricing for earthwork, utilities, paving, and sitework. Excellent analytical and quantitative skills with attention to detail and ability to manage multiple simultaneous bids under tight deadlines. Effective communication and interpersonal skills to coordinate with internal teams, subcontractors, and clients. Ability to read and interpret civil/structural drawings, specifications, and geotechnical reports. Valid drivers license and willingness to attend site visits; OSHA and other safety certifications a plus.
