is a full-service excavation and site utility contractor based in Ringwood, Illinois. We specialize in mass grading, underground utilities, and site development, partnering with developers, general contractors, and municipalities across Northern Illinois. Position Overview We are seeking an Earthwork & Utilities Project Estimator to join our team. This role is responsible for preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates for earthwork, site development, and underground utility projects, ensuring alignment with project scope, specifications, and company profitability goals. The ideal candidate is detail oriented, analytical, and experienced in heavy civil construction, with a strong understanding of earthwork operations and site utilities. Key Responsibilities Estimating & Takeoffs Analyze project plans, specifications, and bid documents for earthwork and utility scopes Perform detailed quantity takeoffs for grading, excavation, trenching, and utility installation Develop accurate cost estimates for labor, equipment, and materials Evaluate production rates and job-specific conditions to ensure accurate and competitive pricing Bid Management Prepare and submit competitive bids in alignment with project requirements and deadlines Solicit and evaluate quotes from vendors and subcontractors Track bid results and identify trends to improve competitiveness Preconstruction Coordination Collaborate with project managers and field leadership to ensure accurate scope alignment Participate in pre-bid meetings and site visits as needed Support project handoff to operations, ensuring clarity of scope, assumptions, and pricing Cost Analysis & Risk Evaluation Identify risks, gaps, and opportunities within project scope Evaluate production rates, equipment needs, and labor requirements Recommend cost-effective approaches and value engineering opportunities Incorporate labor rates, union requirements, and applicable wage conditions into project estimates Core Skills & Competencies Strong analytical and problem-solving skills High attention to detail and accuracy Ability to interpret construction drawings and specifications Effective communication with internal teams and external partners Strong time management and ability to meet bid deadlines Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Bluebeam, and estimating software including AGTEK Required Qualifications 3-5+ years of experience in construction estimating, preferably in earthwork, site development, or utilities Strong understanding of excavation, grading, and underground utility construction methods Experience with quantity takeoffs and cost estimating Ability to read and interpret plans, specifications, and bid documents Experience working in a union construction environment and understanding of union labor structures, wage rates, and work rules Preferred Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field Experience with GPS/machine control, modeling software, or advanced estimating tools Familiarity with local market conditions, vendors, and subcontractors Benefits 401(k) with employer matching Health insurance Dental insurance Paid time off Company vehicle provided Company phone and iPad provided Competitive compensation
