With the best talent, equipment, and technology in the industry, K-Five is a world-class place to grow your career and see the impact of your work in Chicagoland and beyond Prepares complete bid proposals on large and complex projects including analyzing plans and specifications to develop detailed cost for materials, equipment and labor required to construct the project. Duties and responsibilities Review proposal contract documents and attend pre-bid meetings as required. Prepare and organize documents required for complete and responsive bid proposal. Calculate takeoffs from plans to determine quantity accuracy. Visit project for comprehensive understanding of site logistics, restrictions, and conditions. Develop strategy for execution of work in the most cost-effective manner. Prepare detailed breakdown of components and elements of estimates, including tasks, subtasks, production rates and unit costs. Review potential Value Engineering opportunities. Develop and review project risk with Estimating team. Solicit quotes from material suppliers and potential subcontractors. Maintain and expand communications and relationships with vendors, including
DBE / VOSB
outreach efforts. Review, analyze, and incorporate historical data from bid tabs, previous job estimates, FOIA requests, and completed projects to help with the preparation of the estimate. Work closely with Operations, Project Managers, and Materials Managers during the bidding process to ensure accuracy of data used to estimate the project. Lead the hand off of information to project management to be fully educated in all strategies, opportunities and risks that were recognized in the bidding process. Provide material requirement needs & information to Quality Control and Manufacturing managers. Review all change order requests prepared by project management to confirm if maximized profit opportunity. Conduct progress and post construction review of projected and actual construction costs compared to estimated bid costs. Qualifications Experience in private and public markets including Highway, Airfield, Railroad, Streets & Roads, with a focus on paving Ability to estimate multiple projects at one time Excellent organizational and time management skills Ability to work independently with strong attention to detail and resolve issues/problems Excellent verbal & written communications Strong math skills Ability to work autonomously with little or no direction Computer skills: proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Bluebeam, B2W, HCSS, Microsoft Project
