Job Title:
Estimator Job Description We are seeking an experienced Estimator with a minimum of 3 years in commercial construction estimating. This role is critical to our preconstruction process and overall project success. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, proactive, and thrives in a fast-paced environment—especially on bid days. You will work closely with subcontractors, vendors, project managers, and leadership to deliver accurate, competitive, and comprehensive project estimates. Responsibilities Prepare detailed and accurate cost estimates for commercial construction projects. Analyze drawings, specifications, and documentation to develop complete estimates. Develop and distribute bid packages to subcontractors and vendors. Clearly define scope of work and level subcontractor proposals to ensure full coverage. Identify value engineering and cost-saving opportunities while maintaining quality. Maintain and update unit cost databases and estimating tools. Negotiate, prepare, and execute subcontractor and vendor agreements. Build and maintain strong relationships with subcontractors, vendors, clients, architects, and engineers. Participate in preconstruction and project turnover meetings. Support project managers and field teams in maintaining budgets and schedules. Evaluate subcontractor performance and maintain a qualified bidders list. Review contracts and documents to identify risk and ensure scope clarity. Assist in identifying and pursuing new project opportunities. Essential Skills Minimum 3 years of commercial construction estimating experience. Strong understanding of construction methods, materials, and sequencing. Proven ability to meet strict deadlines and perform under pressure. Excellent negotiation and analytical skills. Strong verbal and written communication skills. High attention to detail and strong organizational ability. Proficient with estimating software, spreadsheets, and construction management technology. Self-motivated, solution-oriented, and resourceful. High level of integrity, professionalism, and work ethic. Team-oriented with a commitment to continuous improvement. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience in construction management and preconstruction. Ability to collaborate in a strong, team-focused culture. Commitment to professional growth and development. Work Environment The position is based in an office environment, with frequent visits to project sites around the KC area. The work setting is dynamic, providing opportunities for collaboration and professional growth within a respected and growing commercial builder. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Shawnee, KS. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $38.46 - $50.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
