Job Description

Mechanical Lead Estimator W.G. Welch is seeking an experienced and motivated Mechanical Lead Estimator to join our growing team. This key leadership role is responsible for preparing accurate and competitive estimates, building strong relationships with contractors and vendors, and helping drive successful project outcomes through innovation, collaboration, and strategic thinking. We are looking for a candidate who brings strong estimating experience, leadership skills, and a "do what it takes" mentality to support both our clients and our team. Position Summary The Mechanical Lead Estimator works closely with the Chief Estimator and operations teams to prepare detailed and competitive estimates for mechanical construction projects. This position plays a critical role in developing cost-saving strategies, evaluating constructability, managing bid processes, and mentoring estimating personnel. Key Responsibilities Prepare accurate and competitive project estimates and bid proposals Develop innovative, cost-saving solutions and value engineering ideas Review and analyze project drawings, specifications, schedules, site logistics, and bid documents Perform detailed takeoffs and estimate reviews Build and maintain strong relationships with general contractors, subcontractors, suppliers, and design teams Ensure competitive pricing from mechanical subcontractors and vendors Attend job walks, scope reviews, and client meetings as needed Complete GC scope sheets and participate in bid reviews Collaborate with operations teams to identify constructability concerns Price change impacts and assist with project revisions Lead, mentor, and train estimating personnel Maintain professionalism while upholding company integrity and ethics Stay informed on current market conditions and industry trends Travel as required Qualifications Previous experience in mechanical estimating and construction bidding required Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, construction methods, and estimating practices Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications Excellent communication and relationship-building skills Strong leadership and team collaboration abilities Detail-oriented with strong organizational and analytical skills Ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment Proficiency with estimating software and Microsoft Office preferred Benefits Paid time off Sick Leave Health, Dental, and Vision Insurance Life, STD, LTD 401K Match Annual Salary between 65K-95K based on qualifications and experience. (Paid Weekly) Work Environment This position is primarily office-based with occasional client meetings and job site visits. Work conditions may occasionally involve exposure to construction environments, including noise, dust, temperature changes, and other site-related conditions. Schedule Full-time, exempt salaried position Monday through Friday, 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM, Hybrid work available Occasional Saturdays or extended hours may be required to support project deadlines and company objectives Why Join W.G.
