Job Description
- Review data sheets, analyze blueprints or drawings, and sketches in order to develop an estimate based on previous cost data.
- Participate in after action reviews to determine differences between estimate and execution.
- Work closely with project management to translate customer specifications and drawings into bills of material, projected budget costs and cost estimates.
- Manage the bid strategy and proposal effort both internally and externally, provide competitive analysis, prepare proposal pricing.
- Conduct risk assessment, create estimates, determine equipment and materials needs.
- Establish and maintain the proposal file, documenting technical and commercial discussions and agreements from inception through award to insure a seamless transition from sales to execution.
- Follow project from implementation to closeout; assist with evaluating post project data for use with future proposals and estimates.
- Review project plans, specifications, schedules and documents to understand project scope and analyze risk.
- Participate in precon process.
- Complete and issue PO's
- Perform material take-offs.
- Assist with maintaining estimating database(s), software and tools.
- Review estimates for accuracy and compliance with historic database(s).
- Follow established policies, procedures and checklists related to the proposal process to develop estimates in a timely manner.
- Maintain project document archives, quotes and estimates, in an organized manner and according to department procedures.
- Coordinate pre job planning meetings
- Maintain task list to prioritize workflow.
- Secure the necessary assistance from projects, design and engineering to ensure the technical compliance and strategy on a specific proposal is sound, complete and of best value. This also includes coordinating the response to feedback from customers through management and various internal departments such as engineering, purchasing, and scheduling.
- Work closely with projects in both the proposal and execution phases to ensure optimal strategies are developed and followed through to completion.
- Partner with purchasing to obtain quotations from various raw material suppliers, fabricators and other service suppliers.
- Review finalized summaries for accuracy, completeness, and compliance to proposal scope.
- Providing yield calculations to determine labor hours, material and outside services necessary to produce our customers request for quote.
- Assist with delivery or product / services inquiries, partnering with customer service, scheduling, shipping, and other company representatives as necessary with focus to gather and exchange information.
- Bid form coordination.
- Conduct customer site visits, working with sales team to develop account-gaining strategies by researching and understanding the customer needs and determining the overall business and technical solution.
- Serve as a liaison between the customer and the engineers on matters regarding product design, manufacturability, and pricing.
- Continually strive to further understand the parts, tools, equipment and processes required to produce the parts; keep abreast of new technology in our industry.
- Develop an accurate cost estimate within the MRP system for new and existing production parts.
- Develop and foster an environment of open communication, collaboration and mutual respect; support team meetings, consistent communication, reporting and feedback both within your team and with leadership. Qualifications
- 3+ years' experience in a Precision Sheet Metal & Plumbing environment with extensive knowledge of metals and sheet metal manufacturing techniques and exposure to parts varying from simple to complex.
- Proficient in Microsoft office (Word, Excel, etc.)
- Knowledge of costs of fabricating processes involved.
- Working knowledge of estimating software (Trimble)
- Ability to effectively manage and build relationships across all departments.
- High School Diploma (or GED equivalent) Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of commercial construction industry, services and market
- Verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills; ability to work in a team setting.
- Organizational skills, accuracy, attention to detail.
- Customer service, negotiation, organization and planning skills.
- Time management skills; able to prioritize work and complete projects on time.
- Ability to present information in a clear and accurate manner.
