Job Description

Position Summary The OSP Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate and profitable estimates for fiber optic and utility construction projects. This position combines route evaluation, field investigation, cost estimating, and data analysis to support bidding efforts and project success. The ideal candidate is analytical, detail-oriented, willing to travel, and capable of leveraging technology and AI tools to improve estimating accuracy and project forecasting. Key Responsibilities Prepare estimates and bid packages for underground and aerial fiber optic construction projects. Review plans, specifications, GIS data, KMZ files, customer requirements, and construction drawings. Travel to project locations to perform route assessments, verify field conditions, identify construction risks, and validate estimate assumptions. Evaluate routes for plow, trench, HDD, and excavation construction methods. Identify and quantify risks related to rock, cobble, terrain, utility congestion, railroads, waterways, highways, environmental restrictions, and permitting requirements. Develop labor, equipment, material, subcontractor, and production cost estimates. Build project pro formas, financial models, and profitability forecasts for management review. Leverage AI, GIS platforms, mapping tools, and emerging technologies to improve estimating accuracy and efficiency. Research and compile construction data, production metrics, historical costs, and market intelligence to support pricing decisions. Coordinate with operations, project management, and business development teams to ensure accurate project assumptions. Solicit and evaluate vendor and subcontractor pricing. Participate in customer meetings, pre-bid meetings, and project handoff meetings. Maintain estimating databases, unit costs, production rates, and bid history. Support change order pricing and project cost analysis. Identify opportunities to improve estimating processes through automation, data analytics, and artificial intelligence. Ideal Candidate Strong understanding of OSP fiber construction and underground utility construction. Comfortable traveling extensively to evaluate project routes and jobsite conditions. Highly analytical and data-driven. Embraces technology, AI, GIS, and automation tools. Able to turn large amounts of field and mapping data into accurate construction and financial forecasts. Entrepreneurial mindset with a focus on profitability, risk management, and growth.
Pay:
$65,000.00 - $85,000.00 per year
