The Estimator is responsible for the daily management, coordination and successful completion of the assigned project estimating and preconstruction efforts. This includes conceptual estimates at early stages of project design (SD, DD, 50% CD) as well as soliciting and obtaining subcontractor and supplier bids for projects nearing the construction phase. Additional responsibilities may include hosting pre-bid walk throughs, attending client meetings, attending design meetings, cost savings option development, preliminary project schedules and phasing/sequencing plans, etc. The key responsibilities include:
Promote the growth and development of Subcontractor and Supplier relationships. Represent the Company and project teams in a positive manner in all project meetings. Able to meet deadlines on multiple projects under different stages of progress in a positive and productive manner. Responsible for the solicitation of subcontractors and suppliers for bids, confirming bid coverage prior to bid day, receiving and organizing bids received, scoping bids received, preparation of construction estimates, and submittal of bids on bid day. Participation in the preparation of the preliminary construction schedule for estimating purposes, staffing requirements and logistics plan with Project Manager and Director of Preconstruction. Responsible for the preparation of the General Conditions estimate and reviews with Director of Preconstruction and the assigned project executive. Responsible for ensuring the accuracy and completeness of all estimates. Maintain in current fashion all estimating records, studies, unit prices, etc. Responsible for preparing clear, concise and efficient subcontractor/supplier bid packages. Leads the efforts in evaluating and analyzing subcontractor proposals and in preparation of subcontracts in transition to Project Manager. All other duties as assigned. Position Skills/Knowledge:
A four-year college degree in engineering, construction management, building construction or similar is preferable and a minimum of three years of construction estimating experience. St. Louis market knowledge is required. Previous experience performing work out of state is a plus. Knowledge of building construction, materials, systems, market conditions and trade practices. Demonstrate imaginative, innovative and succinct approach to a project. Excellent oral and written skills required. Excellent computer skills and familiarity with Microsoft office suite programs. Proficient in use of construction project scheduling software programs. Experience with bid solicitation and quantity take off software. Proven proficiency in conceptual estimates and a Design-Build preconstruction philosophy is a plus. R e p o r t i n g R e l a t i o n s h i p : Director of Preconstruction Supervisory Responsibility:
This position may manage interns from time to time. Work Environment This job is an in office position with occasional trips to jobsites for surveys, pre-bids, and other miscellaneous tasks. Physical Demands This position requires no minimum to lift, bend or stand. Safety must be top priority as this position operates in potentially hazardous conditions. Position Type and Expected Hours of Work This is a full-time position. Workdays are predominantly Monday-Friday and hours of work vary depending on work deadlines. Travel Travel is primarily locally during the business day, although some occasional out of the area travel and overnight may be needed.
