Job Description

An Estimator for a concrete and site work company analyzes blueprints, specifications, and site conditions to produce accurate cost estimates for labor, materials, and equipment. They perform quantity takeoffs, solicit subcontractor/vendor bids, and prepare detailed proposals to secure projects while ensuring profitability.
Key Responsibilities Quantity Takeoffs:
Perform detailed, accurate takeoffs for concrete foundations, slabs, site grading, paving, and underground utilities.
Cost Analysis:
Calculate comprehensive costs for labor, material, equipment rentals, and subcontractors.
Site Evaluation:
Visit project sites to assess site conditions, access, and potential logistical challenges.
Bid Management:
Manage the tender process, including soliciting quotes from suppliers and subcontractors, and reviewing scopes of work.
Proposal Preparation:
Prepare and submit detailed, competitive proposals to general contractors or owners.
Software Utilization:
Use industry-standard estimating software (e.g., Bluebeam, Planswift, HeavyBid) to create estimates.
Value Engineering:
Collaborate with project managers to suggest cost-effective, alternative methods for concrete and site work.
Qualifications & Skills Experience:
1-5+ years of experience in construction estimating, specifically focusing on concrete and site development.
Technical Knowledge:
Strong understanding of concrete construction methods, site grading, and structural requirements.
Technical Skills:
Proficiency in reading blueprints, construction documents, and software tools.
Analytical Abilities:
Highly detail-oriented with strong mathematical skills to calculate volumes, areas, and labor hours.
Communication:
Excellent verbal and written communication for client interaction and negotiation.
Typical Day-to-Day:
An estimator in this role might start by analyzing new blueprints, move on to performing a take-off for a new parking lot paving job, conduct a site visit to check soil conditions, and finish by negotiating prices with a concrete supplier.
Compensation:
An estimator will be in a salary position with pay from $65,000 - $125,000 annually based on experience with opportunity for a bonus.

$65,000.00 - $125,000.00 per year
