This individual will be responsible for identifying bidding opportunities, performing complete project takeoffs, preparing accurate and competitive estimates, managing subcontractor relationships, and supporting business development initiatives. The ideal candidate possesses strong commercial plumbing estimating experience, extensive market knowledge, and the ability to lead estimating activities from bid solicitation through project turnover. Key Responsibilities Estimating & Bid Management Lead weekly bid meetings and assist in determining project pursuit strategies. Identify and source new bidding opportunities through industry platforms including Building Connected, ConstructConnect, PlanGrid, Construction Monitor, and other lead generation tools. Maintain and manage the bid schedule and bid calendar. Review project specifications, drawings, addenda, general conditions, bid requirements, and contract documents. Perform complete plumbing takeoffs and develop detailed project estimates using FastPipe/FastEst software. Solicit and evaluate vendor and subcontractor pricing. Prepare comprehensive bid proposals and scope letters. Complete all required bid forms and submission documentation. Monitor bid results and maintain win/loss reporting metrics. Evaluate bid bond, MWBE, outreach, and other compliance requirements prior to submission. Project Handoff & Collaboration Coordinate closely with Project Managers to ensure accurate project turnover following contract award. Communicate project scope, assumptions, exclusions, and unique project requirements during turnover meetings. Incorporate feedback from Project Managers to improve future estimates and bidding strategies. Collaborate with HVAC estimators and other departments during project pursuit activities. Leadership & Team Development Provide guidance and oversight to junior estimators and future estimating team members. Assist in developing estimating procedures, standards, and best practices. Support training initiatives for estimating software and department processes. Market Analysis & Budgeting Develop conceptual and preliminary budgets for prospective projects. Monitor market conditions and material pricing trends including copper and other construction-related commodities. Maintain current knowledge of labor rates, vendor pricing, and regional market conditions. Analyze historical project data to improve estimating accuracy. Business Development & Industry Relations Establish and maintain strong relationships with owners, general contractors, subcontractors, and vendors. Participate in industry networking and client engagement activities. Conduct periodic visits with existing and prospective clients to support company growth and market visibility. Qualifications Minimum 7+ years of commercial plumbing estimating experience. Strong understanding of commercial plumbing systems, materials, labor, and installation methods. Experience performing complete plumbing takeoffs and preparing detailed estimates. Proficiency with FastPipe, FastEst, or similar estimating software. Experience reviewing plans, specifications, addenda, and contract documents. Knowledge of bid solicitation processes and construction procurement methods. Strong organizational, communication, and negotiation skills. Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite. Preferred Qualifications Previous experience supervising or mentoring estimators. Established relationships within the Charlotte construction market. Experience working with commercial, healthcare, education, industrial, or multifamily projects. Knowledge of MWBE requirements, bid bonds, and public-sector bidding processes. Physical Requirements Ability to sit, stand, and work at a computer for extended periods. Ability to review construction plans, drawings, and specifications.
