Job Title:
Estimator Job Description The Estimator plays a key role in preparing accurate and competitive bids for commercial and institutional construction projects. This position focuses on performing detailed quantity takeoffs, analyzing blueprints, calculating time and materials, and collaborating closely with the project management team to develop comprehensive project scopes and support pre-construction activities. Responsibilities Perform detailed quantity takeoffs for commercial and institutional construction projects. Read, interpret, and analyze blueprints, drawings, and specifications to determine project requirements. Calculate time, labor, and material requirements to prepare accurate cost estimates. Prepare and assemble complete bid proposals, including pricing, clarifications, and supporting documentation. Collaborate with the project management team to develop and refine the project scope. Participate in and lead pre-construction meetings to review project requirements, clarify scope, and address potential issues. Review requests for proposals (RFPs) and ensure all requirements are addressed in bids. Use estimating software and tools to develop, track, and update estimates and proposals. Support handoff of awarded projects to the project management team, ensuring a clear understanding of scope and assumptions. Maintain organized records of estimates, bids, and project documentation for future reference. Essential Skills Proven experience using estimating software to prepare construction bids. Ability to read, interpret, and analyze blueprints and construction documents. Strong background in commercial construction estimating. Experience with institutional construction projects or a strong interest in this market segment. Knowledge of bidding processes, including responding to RFPs. Strong quantitative and analytical skills for calculating time, labor, and material requirements. Ability to collaborate effectively with project management and cross-functional teams. Strong attention to detail and accuracy in all estimating activities. Effective verbal and written communication skills. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience estimating for both commercial and institutional construction markets. Familiarity with industry-standard estimating software platforms. Ability to manage multiple bids and deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Strong organizational skills to maintain thorough documentation of estimates and proposals. Interest in contributing to the growth of a firm expanding its presence in the local institutional market. Work Environment This is a full-time, on-site role based in a professional office environment, with the expectation of working five days per week on site. The Estimator works closely with project management and other construction professionals, using estimating software and digital tools to prepare bids and analyze project documents. The company is in a growth phase, serving large, well-known clients and targeting significant revenue expansion as it increases its presence in the local institutional construction market. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Parsippany-Troy Hills, NJ. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $45.00 - $55.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
