About the role:
The Senior Estimator works closely with the entire MRO Built team to create job estimates that meet the client's budgetary goals and the company's fiscal objectives. The person must be a collaborative individual who establishes accurate and efficient work processes while also exploring new innovative ways to achieve improved results. As a millwork and carpentry company working in the commercial construction industry, previous knowledge of creating estimates for custom millwork, cabinets, countertops, trim, metalwork, and glass components is required. The Senior Estimator's main function is to 1) determine scope of work on Request for Proposals 2) coordinate raw material volumes and costs along with any 3rd party supplier pricing 3) combine with internal labor hours required to build finished components 4) create a project estimate for review and validation. Ongoing client and supplier communications are required to better inform the department and management on status of open proposals, marketplace fluctuations, and other general knowledge, is required. Responsibilities Working closely with project managers, purchasing and shop management to fully understand the project realities and alternatives to achieve the expected deliverables Develop accurate job cost estimates by analyzing blueprints, understanding client goals, and compiling material, labor, subcontract, installation, freight, and overhead costs Capture and catalog actual results for use and comparisons in future estimating requests Categorize and present materials for kickoff meetings by clearly communicating job cost assumptions and plans to Purchasing, Project Managers and Shop Foremen Interact with the purchasing and production group to review material choices and alternatives Develop quality and value-engineering opportunities with the engineering and production departments and review with the client for the collective benefit Maintain accurate records and reports Build material and labor routers Analyze estimate to actual job performance to minimize future variances correcting poor assumptions or miscommunication Be a company thought leader and mentor to other employees. Qualifications/Experience Bachelor's Degree in Business Management, Engineering, Construction Management, Architecture or Accounting preferred Minimum of 3 years of experience in estimating manufacturing costs for retail or restaurant fixture packages, or similar industry Ability to read blueprints and perform take-offs Proven ability to build and improve estimating processes and systems and teach others how to use them Great mathematical, analytical, problem solving and communication skills Strong interpersonal relationship abilities Excellent Excel and computer skills Ability to learn and navigate ERP system (Global Shop)
