Job Description

Job Summary D.L. George and Sons Manufacturing Company is seeking a Cost Estimator with prior estimating experience in a fabrication or machine shop. Preference will be given to candidates with a background in machining or welding. The Manufacturing Cost Estimator prepares cost estimates by analyzing Requests for Quotes (RFQs) and project requirements. Works from prints or customer supplied information to determine order of operations and labor hours for each operation, material requirements, employee resources, and costs associated with each. The Cost Estimator interacts with customers and plant representatives as needed to accomplish timely cost/project estimates.
Cost Estimator Responsibilities and Duties:
Prepares work to be estimated by analyzing prints, specifications, and related documents. Identifies labor, material, and lead time requirements by studying prints, specifications, vendor proposals, and related documents. Computes costs by analyzing labor, material, and lead time requirements. Estimate all labor costs associated for the job by using either existing standards, time studies or consulting with shop supervisors. Review job costs to validate accurate estimates. Estimate all materials required for a job by either established pricing standards or by contacting selected vendors for pricing. Resolves discrepancies by collecting and analyzing information. Presents prepared estimate by assembling and displaying numerical and descriptive information. Prepares special reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends. Maintains cost data base by entering and backing up data. Maintains technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing technical publications. Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed. Occasionally seek new vendors for unique materials or services.
Cost Estimator Skills and Qualifications:
Previous experience working in a fabrication or machine shop is a plus. Prior estimating experience in a fabrication or machine shop. Knowledge of related machines uses and capabilities. Ability to read and understand print, tolerances, and interpret specifications. Capable of creating time studies. Must be able to effectively communicate with vendors and customers Must be able to communicate with Department Supervisors regarding non-standard job reviews. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office with strong knowledge of Microsoft Excel. Background in machining, welding and painting preferred. D.L.
